Holy shiat. He fought in WWII and is still the serving senator after 50 years? nice.

Wonder if he stayed awesome or became corrupt.

Holy balls, Batman!

2012-08-25 01:36:53 PM
Looks like he stayed very awesome.

And that, Ladies and Gentlemen, is what a true patriot looks like

Once he was able to enlist, Inouye put his studies as a premed studies and did so immediately.

With a record like that, would you like to be the one trying to chase him out of his office?

(There's not much polling data, but it looks like his approval ratings in Hawaii are higher than God's... which would explain why there'd not be much point to doing polling.)

What a man.

"Nobody called off the war! I want you to set up defensive positions and hold until the rest of the outfit gets here! Report back when you're all set; get me a casualty report as soon as you can! Now get moving!"

Goddamn Japanese making 'Muricans look bad.

I had no idea he had such an awesome back story. Good find, subby.

Inouye has been awarded the Medal of Honor, Bronze Star, and Purple Heart. The guy's a serious bad ass, and also a really great human being.

2012-08-25 05:04:14 PM
The whole thing is a long-con. He's a muslim infiltrator.

If a comic or movie was made of this, it would be laughed off as too unbelievable.

2012-08-25 05:46:08 PM
I'm sure the swift boaters will try to rewrite this history as well....

2012-08-25 06:08:02 PM
But he can't be a" REAL MURICAN" (tm) cause he's a dirty libral!

Your presence, I would stand in it even if I had no legs.

Seriously, though. I hear Inouye in the news sometimes and every now and then read a quote or two from him. We are fairly well politically aligned on the issues. I never knew he was a military badass, though. I've even seen him interviewed and never noticed a missing arm. Huh.

2012-08-25 07:06:53 PM
I learned a little about him in WWII in HD (available on Netflix streaming).
He's truly a badass.

2012-08-25 07:17:34 PM
That's my dude. I met and talked with him at length, back when I was on the editorial board of the local newspaper and we had edit board meetings with him.

He's a straight shooter (NPI), a decent guy, and one of the rare politicians I can stand to have a conversation with.

His unfortunate friendship with Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens aside, he's about as uncorrupt as they come.

Also the only politician I've ever sent an email to just to say how much I admire him

Yeah, Inouye is a bit of one.

I hear his balls have their own gravitational field and can bend light.

He taught Chuck how to Norris.

2012-08-25 08:44:39 PM
I'm so glad I read that. And even more glad he stayed awesome.

We need more people like him that's for damn sure.

2012-08-25 08:49:17 PM
I had no idea he was that much of a badass.

That said, why is this in the geek tab?

Good question. Modmins, please move this story of badassery to the main page where it belongs.

Also,

The remainder of Inouye's mutilated right arm was later amputated at a field hospital without proper anesthesia, as he had been given too much morphine at an aid station and it was feared any more would lower his blood pressure enough to kill him.

truly a shining example of the greatest Generation.

I once shared an elevator with the Senator and his security detail in a medical building in L.A.'s Little Tokyo. Had I not been a little crazed by a massive skin allergy, I would have thanked him for being so awesome.

I hope the author of that gets a good writing teacher when he gets to high school. That showed real promise.

My God. I love this man. That generation truely save our asses. I feel like a schlub sittin here in front of my two tvs drinkin scotch.

2012-08-25 09:33:26 PM
While I (and virtually anyone else reading this) would have begun screaming hysterically and/or passed out, Inouye's primary concern was for his troops

I would have reacted like the author as I do not have have the level of badassery to pry a grenade from my own dismembered hand and toss it at the german who just shot me.

Wifey saw me reading tfa with my jaw on the floor and got to looking at it with me, and I was trying to remember some jackass congressman or something calling him a coward over abortion views or something equally retarded. I don't see it mentioned here, and my googlefu is lacking. Anyone remember something like that?

2012-08-25 09:53:25 PM
Farking badass!

2012-08-25 09:59:04 PM
I'll add him to my list of real American men.

1: Fred Rogers
2: Daniel Inouye
3: Audie Murphy

good thing he was on our side
needs super over hero tag
no dashes he is american.

2012-08-25 10:11:05 PM
I saw this on some pbs documentary with less colorful language. I wrote him a nice letter. He wrote me one back. Cool guy.

2012-08-25 10:16:07 PM
...and the funny thing is, all the while the 442 was kicking ass in Europe, folks were Interning their relatives. THAT'S how badass these cats were. Most decorated unit in WWII, and in our history.

Really, you should scratch Audie from that list.

gameshowhost: The whole thing is a long-con. He's a muslim infiltrator.

You're not far off. Because his MoH was awarded during the Clinton Administratiin, Inouye is something less than a hero and certainly not a Real 'Merkan.

2012-08-25 11:11:16 PM
Meanwhile, Saxby Chambliss pulls another nugget out of his ass and declares himself a hero

2012-08-25 11:11:26 PM
How can he be a US Senator if he's from Hawaii? Isn't that in Kenya?
