That's stunning because it's playing in a 1/3 less theaters across North American than the other wide release actioners. (See below for more details). However, its hot pre-sales have made the pic frontloaded, and its ranking will fall steeply by end of Sunday.

I wouldn't be concerned, though I wonder if it sucks as badly as that Atlas Shrugged movie.

Assuming $10 a ticket, that's less than a million people. I have no problem understanding a million Republicans who will go see an anti-Obama movie. That isn't shocking at all.

Box Office Mojo has it listed at #4, and on a weekend when the #1 movie probably won't break $12,000,000. Not exactly something to be bragging about.

This is by the same guy who did "The Road to 9-11" that had the totally fictional scene of the Clinton administration hanging up the phone when asked for approval to kill Osama bin Laden. So take anything in this "documentary" with an iceberg sized grain of salt.

Not bad for a documentary, though.

Dinesh D'Souza. Incredibly smart, articulate, well-read jackass.

His debate against Hitchens was very interesting, though I confess surprise that D'Souza repeatedly went for personal attacks and cheap shots. His first words in the debate were along the lines of "wow this must be what it feels like to be shot at repeatedly and have all the bullets miss."

Yawn, Fahrenheit 911 did $23 million on it's opening weekend. Link

Bush totally went on to lose the election because of it, too!

I doubt anyone who goes to see this movie is a potential Obama voter.

Non story.

Anybody who would pay money to see it, already believes the lies.

They surround themselves only with people who think like they do, cause people who don't aren't really people.

Thus they think of themselves as the "majority"

Then they go full derp when things don't go the way they believe they should, cause after all, everybody they know believes exactly as them.

So, it must be a conspiracy.

We'd 'dish (seriously, wtf) and dismiss' anyone who shoves a pineapple up their ass against the grain, too. Better get to the grocery store, Phil!

Apparently people are being bussed in to see it. So this is about as significant as the sales figures for Sarah Palin's books.

Pre-sales?

I smell astroturf and totally non-political church-organized group outings. This is like sales for Ann Coulter books and anything by L. Ron Hubbard.

Let me guess: Obama plays Voldermort, doesn't he?

(Righty outrage mixed with media, commerce, and sprinkles of "look what we did" bravado. Yawn. Wake me when the next idiot says something stupid. It won't be long, I'm sure.)

Wikipedia says that Dinesh D'Souza's belief, and purpose in making this film, is that Obama wants to shrink America's "footprint" in the world, while increasing the "footprint" of nations he feels have suffered economically because of American policy. I already believe that our Empire, and the money and resources we put into it, are a big stupid millstone hanging around the neck of our economy, and have resulted in a government so huge and out of control that if the average small-government tea-partier had one second of clarity in their miserable, blame-others lives, they'd instantly fall over from a massive heart attack.

I don't mind seeing the movie as long as you're aware that I believe that shoveling massive amounts of money into a global domination scheme while simultaneously calling for smaller and smaller government is an extraordinarily stupid idea.

By his own admission, he wouldn't have become a well-known pundit if not for his ethnicity.

Mr. D'Souza noted that he was able to say things which would be much more controversial if he were not South Asian.

Gesturing at his color, he said, "I enjoy a certain ethnic immunity that a white man would not have."

/He argues that Asian culture is superior to other cultures, but you can't criticize him because he's Asian.

Two Laws Of Punditry

1. No matter how cockamamie, erroneous or downright insane a statement of opinion may be, at least a handful of people will consider it gospel truth.

2. These people have disposable income.

Its just a political tactic to keep the base rallied. HuffPo did the same thing for the Stewart/Colbert shindig. Its a useful political tool.

Hes an awful debater. Wont really address what the other person said. Usually doges it with the phrase "Let me ask you." Craig is much better. Why D'Souza is so popular I dont understand.

Everyone going to the #1, #2, #4, and #5 movies are going because they expect to actually enjoy the movie.

For the ones going to the Obama documentary, though, the very act of traveling to the theater and paying for a ticket is a semi-religious hate pilgrimage, much like the chicken sandwich bullshiat from last week.

Some might even be counting it as their weekly trip to church.

I was at a store just now, and I saw two derp-books about Obama side by side. One was called "The Great Destroyer", and the other was called "Amateur."

I love how, in the right wing press, Obama is at once an incompetent buffoon and the most insidious and potent force for evil ever.

/doubts anyone who would believe either book is literate

F911 still did enough damage to the "GW BUSH CAN DO NO WRONG! OBEY AND BE PATRIOTIC!" mythos that the gop and Fox News surrounded him with after 2001.

Just that Kerry was a really really awful candidate. He was too feeble & wishy-washy and never fought back against anything Karl Rove through at him.
