Not that it happens often, but this whole rained-out qualifying is then determined by practice speeds is lame.  No one cares about practice.  And in practice, some of the best guys are trying out completely wrong set-ups (which they eventually and hopefully fix).  Go back to the old method of determining it based on the points already.

Let's go, Smoke!

I watched the Nationwide race yesterday. If that's anything to go by, this should be a pretty interesting race. The part of the track that they shaved down had absolutely no grip.

Setting it by points is boring. Setting the grid by spelling bee would be much more entertaining.

Heck, do it by playing bingo, or, even better, have them literally have to fight each other battle-royal to draw their spots, last driver standing gets the pole, the rest of the spots are determined by reverse order of elimination (first one out gets spot 43, second one out gets spot 42, etc). And televise the fight.

I would need a lot of beer to watch some of these guys in a spelling bee, but by god I would watch the hell out of that!

I'm not really looking at setting a rained-out qualification to be exciting.  Just fair.

No big deal, though.

This little league game on beforehand (which is far more of a sport than NASCAR) is farking ridiculous.

Some of the Irwin Tools people (who are staying at the hotel I work at) were suggesting 18 holes of golf - match play rules, fastest time combined to determined position.

Of course, they were suggesting this on the golf course after several beers.

You mean the game that was 8-1 TN over CA in the 3rd, and is now tied 15-all in the 7th?

I just got told I have to help someone move. Friendly tip farkers... If you want your weekend to yourself, don't buy a truck.

Well, its ESPN on ABC for all intents and purposes. Don't bet on it.  Plus... its one of the most watched prime-time races.

So ESPN Alternate is also showing the race.  Strange.  Does anyone in America not get ABC with their cable package?

Isn't this "ESPN on ABC"? So that means all that great stuff should probably carry over intact.

Meh.  I don't have a truck, but my Ford Flex can hold a shiatton of cargo (even the passenger seat goes down flat).  If someone needs it to move, they can borrow it.  But they can borrow me during a NASCAR race.  Plus, I'm already into the vodak so its not like I'm gonna drive.

That's a good excuse too. Sorry, drunk.
I owe this friend. Known her for 20 years. She introduced me to Mrs Crotchgrabber who makes a wonderful sammich and has many other fine attributes.
Have fun with the race. DVR is go, and I'm out.

Just switched over to ABC from ESPN. Had to mute it after 2 pitches. Dunno who the screamer mom is but if I were in the bleachers I'd be really stabby about now!

And the Little League game ends with a football score, 24-16

Juan Pablo Montoya's musical intro was "Great Balls of Fire."

2012-08-25 07:04:40 PM
The final is Tennessee 24, California 16.

Good on both the Volunteers and the Golden Bears for all the two-point conversions. That's pretty gutsy football.

...they were playing WHAT?!

Bristol is .533 mile oval; Martinsville is .526 oval. Per the NASCAR site.

I'm not entirely sure what the point is anymore of putting the car company logos next to the drivers. It's all the same damn car anyway.
