A health commissioner says a nurse accidentally disposed of a kidney from a living donor at an Ohio hospital that later suspended its kidney transplant program.

How much medical waste do they keep around that place?!

I worked in a hospital for two years, and i generally found nurses to be angry and ignorant. but not stupid ... I would expect nurses in the OR to be a little more diligent and attentive. Most floor nurses are a step above your typical Denny's waitress.

I can totally envision the nurses being too consumed with discussing the latest gossip, and not focusing on what they were doing ... ooops .... oh well get over it or I will call my union rep.

I don't know which is worse. The fact that the organ was left around presumably in an unlabeled container, and some technicians there didn't know what was inside(Presuming it was inside of something) and tossed it out. OR the fact that they fished it out of the wast bin and tried to resuscitate it! In any case, since that organ was intended for someone, there likely will be a malpractice suit on their hands.

Jeez, talk about a never event.

/was once in the OR when a nurse almost lost a lymph node during a biopsy

Snarfangel: Nurses: the angriest humans on the planet.

I've been pretty fortunate in my life. I have 5 kids aged 4 - 14, and we've only had to endure 3 hospital stays (not counting births, which are usually pretty short anymore). The nurses have always been great. Every once in a while you get one who is a little surly, but overall they were very caring, helpful and attentive. Then again, I live out in flyover country, and the nurses probably aren't quite as overworked as one would be in an urban setting. I'm also an EMT, so I deal with ER nurses all the time. They can be curt and down-to-business, but I wouldn't say angry. Some of the doctors can be real dicks, though.

If any of you farkers are nurses, and I'm sure some of you are, thank you for everything you do. I couldn't do your job, and I'm glad there are people out there who are willing to do it.

The 2 OR nurses involved should both donate a farking kidney if they ever want to work as a nurse again.

I would be suing the crap out of that hospital if that was my kidney(doesn't matter if I was the donor or the recipient). I wouldn't stop suing them until the place was shut down, and it sounds like that wouldn't be a bad thing since the article seems to point out that this type of thing isn't rare there.

It says they tried to resuscitate the organ. How do you do that? A really really tiny AED?
