This. Although if you install a K&N air filter, as long as you keep it clean, your gas mileage will improve.

What they need is WiFi so you can use your Google goggles to watch You Tube videos while you drive.

Chrysler's system receives only Android and BlackBerry smartphone text messages. It isn't compatible with Apple iPhone.

Seems like a pretty significant flaw in their strategy... One would think an app to link text capabilities is being developed right now.

Also as the owner of a 2011 GMC I find this Ram to be pretty impressive. Although the proof is in durability of this 8-speed, mileage and not sure how people will feel about a transmission knob.

Meh.  I'm not into much in terms of social media at all, but texting serves a purpose.  If I need to tell my wife something quick, and don't want to get into an entire conversation about it ("remember to bring home eggs and english muffins")... I'd much prefer to text her.  Also, it archives said message.  I don't have the greatest memory.  If my wife gives me a list of 5 things to get at the store, I'm bound to forget at least one.  If she texts me, I have it right there when i get to the store.

All in all, sometimes you don't feel like having a full conversation with someone.

Also, if I'm watching TV, grilling, or something... a phone conversation means I need to stop everything I'm doing.  A text I can fire off in a second and the recipient can read it whenever they're free to do so.

However, my 2011 Chrysler 200 is sure sweet!

I wish the styling was a little more exciting though. They seem to have taken the most conservative aspects of the Sebring and 300 and combined them. It seems to be a perfectly fine automobile, it just seems like it could be a little more ... I don't know ... adventurous?

The only thing decent about the ram is the Cummins ISB. You ladies in your gas job half tons can take a walk.

The iPhone doesn't support Bluetooth MAP, last I knew. That may be incorrect now, though, I haven't tried out iOS 5.1 or 6.

I'm ok with it, I don't need something that looks like a mutant. It blends in traffic just like my minivan, the cops ignore me as long as I don't trip the radar, mpg is good and the interior is comfortable. As for adventurous I have a 58 Chrysler and a 68 Roadrunner. Which would you prefer power and fins, or more power? ;)

I like the old Chrysler texting feature. The transmission would refuse to shift so you could send all the texts you wanted safely.

Oh yeah, I mean, I'd take the styling of a 200 over a crazy Nissan Juke or Cube any day. Radical isn't always better :)

Yeah I guess I'm in the minority when it comes to texting or maybe I get texted too much with trivial shiat that I'm turned off to it altogether. And I guess I'm not at the point where I'd go out of my way (and for me, typing on a phone is going way out of my way because I suck at it) to avoid talking to family and friends. But to each their own.

TFA: "We know that although it is dangerous and illegal in many states, people are still pulling out their cellphones while driving to text message," Christensen said.

"Some, especially young people we call 'screen-agers,' actually don't talk on their phones as much as they communicate through text," he said.

He sounds like a '50s cop. "We know that kids today like to use the "radio" to listen to their "Rock and Roll" and that can be a distraction."

And stop with the gimmicky non-car technology. If anyone wants it, it'll be on the phones before this truck gets delivered anyway. Just put in a couple extra usb outlets so the whole crew can recharge their phones and put your technology people to work on the drivetrain.

Ford has had it as part of the SYNC for years.  Does this on my 2010 Flex, although one of our phones isn't supported.

MacEnvy: Dodge trucks are awesome and always have been

I'll tell my wife's boss and my father in law that. It will give them something to think about next time each of them have to take their 5 year old or younger 1500 Rams in for work. Again.

I'd love to buy a Challenger, they seem absolutely awesome. But I have yet to ever meet a single person who owned a Chrysler product - truck, car, minivan, doesn't matter - that didn't require constant and significant repairs.

That's my experience as well. I think they make great-looking cars and trucks, but the two Chrysler cars I had were absolute pieces of crap. Granted, this was in the 90s and early 00s, so I don't have any current experience with them, but I'm not willing to bet $30 grand or so on another Chrysler product. I love the Challenger but don't trust Dodge. I also test drove the Camaro when I was car shopping last year, but my sister had such a bad experience with her Chevy a few years ago that I couldn't pull the trigger on that one, either.

The most reliable car I'd ever had was a Nissan, so that's what I ended up getting. I like the styling of the American muscle cars a lot more than my Z, but I just felt more comfortable with the Nissan brand.

Thinking about it, I would be leery of a dial operated transmission. Especially if you are ever driving in mud or icy water that has a tendency to clog up linkages. Guess I can see that being a potential issue down the road.

While texting is a different kind of beast that takes eyes of of the road, every independent study (that i know of) done by major corporations that have interest in keeping their employees safe has shown that hands-free devices are essentially useless. The fact that they are a billion dollar industry with lobbying power will keep the laws on their side, but people should know better.

Is that why the Grand Cherokee has won so many awards?

"The Grand Cherokee V8 was on Car and Driver magazine's Ten Best list and was Motor Trend magazine's Truck of the Year for 1993.
It was also Petersen's 4x4 of the Year in 1993, 1996 (with the redesigned NV249 transfer case), 1998 (with the newly available 5.9L V-8), 1999 (with its acclaimed 2nd generation model), 2001 (with the new 5-speed transmission), and 2005 (with its 3rd generation model)."

Probably didn't want the connector to change on them again rendering the system useless.

They also probably don't want to be sued by apple for violating on their "rectangle" patent.

Chrysler hate isn't a "meme", it is the outcry of all those people who have been royally farked by buying one of their vehicles.

As a bonus, if you've ever tried to work on one yourself, you find that it is designed to drive you to insanity and/or alcoholism.

2012-08-26 08:23:36 PM
Hands-free texting, what kind of demonry is this? Next, we'll have the capability to simply speak directly to each other over these new-fangled devices. This type of free thinking scares and angers me.

"2013 Ram 1500 pickup will be first in U.S. to offer hands-free texting. Difficulty: It's still a Fiat"

Fixed.

Remember, Chrysler went bankrupt for a reason, just like GM. Perhaps if they'd made cars which were good enough to sell in volume overseas they wouldn't have had such big problems when Americans stopped buying. It makes me sad to be a MOPAR guy, but happier since I'm a big fan of some of Fiat's engines.

And just so I don't go completely off topic, texting is a good way of letting the world know that you're an antisocial, codependent nutbag. Texting while driving is just plain stupid, unless you'd like to murder someone, that is.

A small lil addendum to my previous remark. It is widely known among those of us blessed with superior Dodge vehicles that we are indeed luck. The engine matters. If you choose the wrong engine with your awesome body styling you are gonna be in financial pain. There is no grey area, the engine is either tough as nails or is a straight up turd. That said, I cant deny the truth of the above statement regarding insanity and/or alcoholism. Had to fabricate a unique tool just to change my starter.

At 1/3rd the original horsepower, sure. Not that you'd notice after having it so long.
