steveGswine: The Babe pitched in 1930? Would've thought that was kinda late in his career for that.
NeoCortex42: I'm sure everyone will absolutely love it if the first year of the expanded wild card ends up with three teams from the AL East making the post-season.
mikemoto: What was really strange is three nights ago, Adrian Beltre hit 3 home runs in a game and ESPN went apeshiat over this fact. Last night Adrian Beltre hit for the cycle, which is a far greater accomplishment, and ESPN merely mentioned it in passing.

SlothB77: The ball was signed by some girl named babe.
DeWayne Mann: In 2010, Casey Blake became the 13th player to score 3 runs without a benefit of a hit or a walk.
rickythepenguin: huh. HBP, a couple of passed balls / WP, perhaps a balk or two?that he did it is not terribly hard to imagien, but three times ina game is pretty remarkable.
DeWayne Mann: hold on a second, i've got an article or two for you if you think that's cool
DeWayne Mann: So, for instance, a line of 0 0 0 0 has happened 189 times (again, from a starter) with Babe Ruth doing it the most (5 times):
rickythepenguin: DeWayne Mann: So, for instance, a line of 0 0 0 0 has happened 189 times (again, from a starter) with Babe Ruth doing it the most (5 times):ok....don't quite get it.....Babe had no official ABs meanign he could have walked 4 times, but never scored, obviously never got a hit, and thus never had RBI. what am i missing?
rickythepenguin: Oh, to return to our exchange on the waiver wire.....Snakes put Upton on the wire, "an unknown team claimed him, according to sources familiar witht the sutation." so the paper today said, if i recall it correctly, we have until Sunday 4PM or some shiat to arrange the trade or pull him back. interesting.
DeWayne Mann: A starter putting up a line of 0 0 0 0 has happened fewer times than someone hitting for the Cycle
rickythepenguin: well....i still don't get what is so cool about quad zeros. i mean, does a NL relief pitcher that faces one batter and throws only, lets say, 4 pitches, not finish with quad zeros?
rickythepenguin: i mentioend how at the last Snakes game i went to, they showed each player's ABs in scorekeeping format. that is, ins tead of "walk, groundout, single, strikeout" they had the little pictogram on the video board, showing what happened. that was kinda cool.
DeWayne Mann: Hence specifying starter. But, yes, I'd wager most of them left with injuries.
skrame: DeWayne Mann: Hence specifying starter. But, yes, I'd wager most of them left with injuries. The article you linked to says that the starter had to finish the game, so it's usually going to be 3-5 at bats.
