I'm actually against flouridization systems in small towns.

I've worked at different waterplants as a repair tech and installer. Some of these places are so backwards that they simply cannot be trusted to maintain the equipment properly to ensure that too much flouride is not added.

Not anti-flouride, just anti idiot.

Other than the cost? Short sighted politicians (are there any other kinds) in some places consider it too expensive to maintain the systems. Yet, the cost to maintain in many places amounts to a few pennies a day, but the cost to the maintaining of healthy teeth is significantly higher and mostly affects children. You can get supplements, but they're not always easy to find.

It's not at all reasonable. The reasonable response is to insure that it is done properly and that the required testing is being carried out.

well first of all it depends on what fluoride they use. sodium fluoride is very insoluble still dangerous but unlikely you will absorb enough to kill you. on the other hand Hexafluorosilicic acid should not be put into water. even small amounts can damage developing children. and this is the common one used in water fluoridation. our town uses sodium fluoride.

I live in one of the largest cities in the country that doesn't flouridate its water. We're actually making it a ballot initiative in November and it's been fun to watch the crazies come out. Otherwise perfectly rational people go insane at the suggestion that adding flouride to the water supply might actually be a good thing.

Sourcing of fluoride from dodgy suppliers is another reasonable argument as well. Though I'm not certain if this is truly a systemic problem or if someone in the township just decided to cut costs in this case and order off a random website. Or if the "ZOMG! China!" angle is just being leveraged by the anti-fluoride crew. (I thought this was more widespread but could not find enough non-partisan reports in a Google search to convince me.)

Also, "fluoride". Not "flouride".

Or simply escrow about $50,000 per resident for future dental bills. Not a tax.

Oops not end of stort - need edit button - meant "Hydrofluorosilicic Acid". But flouride (Hydrofluoric acid )is the main ingrediant of prozac.

"Many psychoactive drugs including Prozac, Paxil and Luvox are fluorinated medications. Rohypnol, the infamous date- rape drug, is fluorinated Valium, which is about 20-30 times more potent than Valium alone. "

Actually, you're a dumbass, and Hydrofluoric acid is not directly added to the water supply. It is a precursor chemical in the production of fluorine, but you may as well start ranting about how Hydrochloric acid is directly added to water as a disinfecting agent.

I'd actually like to see a study done that looked at the frequency of fluorinated water and learning disabilities. In the last decade; the frequency of learning disabilities has skyrocketed. I'm not saying fluoride is the cause; I'm just curious if there is a correlation.

For people who don't believe what he's saying, here is the chemical structure of Prozac:

upload.wikimedia.org

It's true. Why don't people understand? Look how many Fluorides there are. THREE. I don't see three of anything else there! There's one H, one N, one O, one C and THREE F's. So fluoride is the main ingredient in prozac.

So let me tell you, just like halloran is saying, there is essentially no difference between straight fluoride and HCNOF3. I just threw that chemical formula together based on the letters in the picture. We all know this instinctively too. We all drink water, which we all know is H2O. The main ingredient in water is hydrogen and we all know, if we drink a solution with a whole crap load of hydrogen in it that also is safe. Same goes for NaCl. NaCl is safe and so Cl alone is safe. I return you to HCNOF3 which I assume is Prozac. That alters the mind, so clearly F3 alters the mind.
