What we need to do is create an infectious nanotechnological 'autopilot' agent we can spray on the wildlife. Whenever a human being comes close to a potentially dangerous animal, the autopilot takes over and dampens all aggressive responsives in the animal, i.e. the critter starts acting like a kitten or cub or calf.

Pray 4 Mojo: Glendale: Otherwise the P-mill, Atlantis and probably now the post-renovation GSR are where people are likely to go,

Question: Would you "recommend" the Peppermill... per se?

Looking at rooms for Street Vibrations and the P Mill still has suites available that are somewhat reasonable (under $500).

I haven't been to Reno in about 8 years... and I just remember what a dump it was. I stayed "downtown"... in the old part. Yech.

I stayed at the Peppermill last year for Worldcon. The rooms are pretty nice, and (at least in my estimation) the half-dozen restaurants in the hotel are good for the most part. It's easy to get lost in the casino, however (it took way too long to find my way through the casino to some of the restaurants).

Although if you do eat at one of the hotel restaurants, avoid the stir-fries. When I went, the one stir-fry I ordered at Cafe Milano was practically raw--almost as if they were trying to make a sashimi-like plate instead of a proper stir-fry. Although I may be a bit spoiled in that regard because for several years I lived just a few blocks from a really good Chinese take-out place.

GSR still has rooms, but no suites for Street Vibes.

I stayed at Altantis for World Con, got to have dinner with Patrick Rothfuss. Highlight of last year.

The Peppermill has made some changes in the last few years and added a new tower (Tuscany Tower), replaced the coffee shop just recently, added new restaurants with the new tower and whatnot. In my college days the cheap steak and eggs after midnight was always a hit. GSR used to be scary up on the hotel floors but I haven't seen if the renovations fixed that.

I don't think you can really go wrong with Peppermill or Atlantis. The two of them seem to be the only properties consistently making money and renovating, updating, or adding things with it. Downtown is just old, stale, or both.

Ladies, if your mother's comment on your outfit was that you look like you're asking for it, then you're dressed exactly right. (new window)

peppermills new room look nice but kind of cramped. their new tuscan theme looks nice, the have not eaten there since they renovated.

GSR rooms are much better post renovation, a bit more plain but dont feel completely cramped. but they have not completed their renovations (for example, they just re-renovated (yet again) the casino floor areas but they still have the MGM lions on most of the elevator doors and they have not touched their smoking rooms so they are a bit ratty, dated and (being smoking rooms) smell kinda funky so bring some incense if you're a smoker. (i stay at GSR freqently.... my kid lives in reno so i go there a lot)

Gyrfalcon: Rindred: I liked the Silver Legacy, and the Atlantis is OK. The bad thing about Reno is finding good food.

It's there, but unless you're a local, you'll never find it.

Yeah, that's why I'm sure that if I ever go to Reno again, I'll never find the restaurant my old co-workers took me to for a killer chef's salad. With Doritos and fried chicken strips, it was awesome.

Nu Yalk Pizza is yummy & they serve draft PBR. So you're in & out for about $5 easy. I've hear they've moved from Moana & Keitzke (sp?). Hope they didn't change their recipes.

They moved to a new building on Virginia Street, about three miles south of where they were. (Their old building got torn down to widen Moana.)

I haven't been to the new building yet, but I doubt that the food changed between the locations.

I didn't find my room at the Peppermill cramped, but that might be because I got a good deal on a suite (read: oversized room) in the Tuscany Tower (it was heavily discounted because of a last-minute cancellation). In fact, I found it almost comically large, since I ended up having a king-size bed entirely to myself.

Disclaimer: the last hotel I stayed at before the Peppermill was the Wawona at Yosemite, which has tiny rooms that probably haven't been renovated since about 1920, so my view of the Peppermill may be a bit skewed.

Thankies.

What most people don't know is that coelacanths started out as minnow-sized freshwater fish who gradually evolved into these relatively huge saltwater fish.

Coelacanths also appear to enjoy human company.
