Well, that's tempting fate if I've ever seen it.

If they had any balls, Michigan would go to Boone for that game.

FTFA...
"I'm kind of a marketing guy and I like setting up games that have a lot of interest," Brandon said Wednesday to the Detroit Economic Club.

"I hear from people we shouldn't play them, they're too hard. We shouldn't play them, they're too soft. We shouldn't play them because that's a bad memory. We should play them because we have to pay them back. Everybody's got an opinion about that game. That's why I like that game. ... The networks were fighting over who gets to televise that game."

Oooh, What smack talk.

I mean, what smack talk?

/If they could make up the revenue, they'd do the App State thing as an Away, I'm sure. They already got stung by UConn, though.

It'd be funny if only because App State could just chant the score of the first game for 60 minutes no matter what happens next year.

In an amused way, I agree, but that would cost Michigan (and even Appalachian State) too much money.

That said, no way is UM losing to them again. BUT! If it happens, my god would I laugh about it until I die.

Woodlands BBQ down the road in Blowing Rock ain't half bad.

But traffic in Boone is bad enough on a regular Saturday, so bringing UM in would create epic gridlock.

If Appalachian State beats Michigan again, they should be allowed to take home one of the Wolverines' National Championship trophies. :-)

If Appalachian State paid Michigan the $5 million we would lose by scheduling an away game, we could talk about it, but that's never going to happen. The last time App State came to the Big House, the school was paid $400,000. I'm sure this time they're getting paid even more and they're going to be on national television. There's nothing here the school, the players, or the fans to complain about.

I still get a big grin every time I see that scoreboard.

Oh, I think I can find something to complain about. It ought to be equal amounts home and away for everyone, and ideally should be out of the schools' hands as to who they play, when they play and where they play.

Schools shouldn't be able to schedule their opponents? So no Iowa/Iowa State games or Michigan/Notre Dame or Florida/Florida State games? Not sure folks would ever or should ever buy that idea.

except appalachian state is probably making more money from this game than the rest of its schedule combined.

Again, im thinking the good folks at APP state would tell you to hush your mouth and hand them the big check.

Eh, it's in Blowing Rock. It's a joint called Woodlands that's been there forever. I'd recommend the pulled pork with the jalapeno corn bread and a Bells Two Hearted IPA.

If you're pre-gaming in town, you can't go wrong with Boone Saloon.

Go Mountaineers!

This game still makes me laugh, and didn't they choke the next 2 years after that against small teams? UM has a history of choking in other sports too.....like when my Alma mater beat up on them in the NCAA tourney last year then made sure their football coach knew who Ohio was.

They can take the 1997 one. I'm tired of Michigan fans pretending their team was better than Nebraska that year. The Huskers would have annihilated them.

I think it was huge more that year because they were ranked top 5 and supposed to have a great shot in a weaker Big 10 to run the table and win it all. It wasn't like it was off-year Michigan being stunned, this was a supposed National Title contender and historical power losing to a lower level team. UM turned out to have a bad year, but as preseason things go, it made it bigger (plus the record drop from top 5 to out of the polls the next week and pollsters debating about giving App State votes in the poll)

I live about 4 blocks from Michigan Stadium. My App State shirt arrived in the mail today. It's gonna be a fun season.
