Somebody ought to chop her down. It's a beautiful tree.

Those bastards! I guess they think they can get away with this.

"Nine years ago it wasn't anywhere near as big"

That's the crazy thing about stuff that's alive: Most of it tends to get bigger the longer it hangs around.

"When we've had all this hot weather I've had to stay holed up in my house," Mary said.

So your solution is to cut back something that provides shade and cools your property?

Trees are evil. Ronald Reagan told me (when he was alive).

"Trees cause more pollution than automobiles do." -- Ronald Reagan, 1981

"A tree is a tree. How many more do you have to look at?" -- Ronald Reagan, 1966, opposing expansion of Redwood National Park as governor of California

The 84-year-old says even opening the windows on a hot day sees buds and leaves from the tree blown in.

We have a ton of tropical plants all over our yard.  Me and the wife found this amazing product that helped us in this situation: screens.  My life changed forever.

So you're saying they have uses beyond sifting for gold? It's amazing what you'll learn on the internet.

Is this about the Evil Dead thing? Because that tree wasn't engaged in "rape" rape.

I hear the nursing home nearby has lots of small trees.

She should be thankful that this is the worst thing she has to worry about, the old biatch.

If you life is being ruined because of a tree, it might be time to step back and take a look in the mirror...or to move into a retirement home.

Goddamn that farkING TREE!

I'm sure I'm the only one who slogged through that entire article.

Regardless of the fact that an article like this brings great schadenfreude to Fark's elder- and woman-hating brigade, some nice vandal should sneak over during the night and poison the farking tree. Let the lady enjoy what time she has left.

It's just a tree. And it's dropping loads of crap everywhere. Cut it down, for fark's sake.

White people problems.

She's 84, just stall for a little while and this problem will take care of itself.

2012-08-24 08:30:45 PM
She'll return to be holed up in her house after she's finished having her picture taken outside with the tree. I'm not entirely sure how one makes it to 84 when a tree causes that much distress.

2012-08-24 08:43:52 PM
It's not that hard to kill a tree quickly & undetected.

MeinRS6: White people problems.

Eh, I'd say historically that large trees have been more of a black people problem.

Rape rape

If the city is smart, they'll just hold this up in court as long as possible. That old bat can't possibly stick around for much longer, unlike that tree.

Her husband died, and her life is over, and the serenity of her home life is gone. The poor dear just needed something and someone to blame.

I'm no supporter of Reagan, but I had to look that up. He really, really said that. And people still worship the ground he walked on.

Leave the tree, cut her down. Sometimes it is just easier to just put them on an ice flow.

Is it true you can't get pregnant from that kind of rape?

I'm confused as to how falling leaves prevent her from being outside.

Does she melt if a leaf touches her or something? How has she made it to the age of 84 if she's that fragile?

2012-08-24 09:24:27 PM
I think my neighbor (the lawn nazi) is stressed out by the leaves from my tree in the fall. As soon as they start coming down, and into his yard, he's out there with his leave blower, blowing them back into my yard. He even comes onto my property to do this. I'll rake them up about once a week, but I'm not going out there every day. The Lawn Wars- they start soon.

2012-08-24 09:24:54 PM
I'm certain, since she lives in England and all, there'll be a cloud around shortly for her to yell at instead.

Damn Brits. Losing their empire has driven them insane.

And the poor old dear is still pining for him. Sounds like he left her in the larch. There'll be elm to pay.

In all seriousness, this is an elderly woman, a widow, a grandmother, yet we all take the side of the tree. Why is that?

If we can put up with the boomers that old people spawned, she can put up with the leaves that a tree spawned.

Such things are actually very rare in the UK. They're seen as an American thing.

Problem is she will find something new to biatch about. I've been around her type, issue is she is alone since her husband died (no mention of children so either they didn't have any or they don't visit much) and nobody pays attention to her. By bring up this issue, she get attention and feels like her life has a meaning by crusading against the tree. If they give in, she will find something new that is making her life miserable so she doesn't feel alone and forgetten. Instead of cutting down the tree, the city needs to get her a bus/cab pass and direct to some senior actives or groups. Give her social interactions and she won't spend all day getting prissy about some tree.

Um, because she's being unreasonable? The customer isn't always right, sometimes the customer is an asshole.

I can't believe the amount of stress people cause for themselves, the amount of money they waste, and the amount of harmful chemicals they'll spray on their lawn, purely for cosmetic purposes. idk, I think the "natural habitat" guy from yesterday might've been on to the right idea.
