tankjr: ComicBookGuy: In the unlikely event of an afterlife, I doubt he's being rewarded.

That asshole came away from Reed with all the wrong lessons.

He was a secretly awesome person. About 10 years ago when some friends of mine were researching computers to help their autistic son. They got a call from "Some guy that works for Apple named Steve Jobs" and he sent them a free Mac. He wasn't a pure douchebag.

He was a fanatical control-freak perfectionist, like so many other geniuses. Edison, Ballanchine, Mahler, etc.
We seldom admire THEM as much as we do their work. Although I have multiple issues with Apple (divided family not the least).

I'm so tired of hearing that Jobs was a genius. Dennis Ritchie is a genius. Jobs was a shrewd business man who headed a cult of personality. Great products and all, but he simply mined ideas that originated in the 60s.

Dadoody: When the hell did Thai buddhists start believing in angels?

Buddhists are very metaphysical. They just don't have a personalized version of "god" but they are not "atheists" in the sense of denying stuff like the "between-lives" area.

It takes a certain amount of smarts to be able to do that effectively. He didn't just crib off other ideas, he grabbed and improved ideas that would make money.

Sure, but I think that Jobs was a incrementalist. Probably the most interesting stuff that he tried to do was at NeXt, and that failed. Surely he was very successful and intelligent. But not a genius.

Just so I'm clear on the rules of the game:

1) Suggesting without proof that someone is not a natural-born citizen? Foul play.
2) Suggesting without proof that someone is a tax dodger? Fair game.

Actually, the only rule is "Hit the other guy back as hard as he hit you," amiright? It always amazes me that you guys know how to be warriors at stupid political games, resolved totally to destroying the enemy, but when it comes to fighting actual wars you shrivel up and become pussies, and you feel sorry for the bad guys. I don't get it.

Nah, it's more like the Indus River's Unitarianism. It was tying a bunch of existing mythologies together into a (kiiiiinda) coherent whole, not looking at a single religion and social structure and going "no u".

So I can expect to be a mid-level angel in a parallel universe after I kick the proverbial bucket as well or should I wait for the iAngel 4 to come out?

"According to the report, a Witthayathorn is a type of angel that is a seeker of knowledge through the sciences, and a Yak is the Thai word for giant"

Oh FFS. Two things:
1) Jobs was a galactic-scale douche, so if there's an afterlife, he's not being rewarded
2) Jobs was about as far from a "seeker of knowledge through the sciences" as you can get. The guy was a marketer and a glorified design wonk.

The evil that men do lives after them; the good is oft interred with their bones. And especially on the Internet, where billions of people will crawl out of the woodwork to bash someone once it's safe to do so AND they can't actually be identified by anyone.

Oh come now, Steve Jobs was lawful evil at best. Just ask anyone who worked with or for him. He's currently a minor clerk in the propaganda division of hell. If you consider this to be a bad joke based on a gaming system that uses imagination, consider that any religion you can think of is and does the same thing as any gaming system. However that does not change the fact that Jobs was a total prick to anyone he had any power over.

To really classify anyone into a D&D morality system is ambiguous at best but I would have to agree regretfully: he is LE exemplar.

Probably around 500BC when Siddhārtha Gautama was preaching to his diciples about the various planes of spiritual existence which are invisible to humans.

So let's get this straight:

Apple Inc. made 11Billion dollars in PROFIT last quarter, ($11,000,000,000.00 for the UK folks).
Apple pays it's Chinese laborers slave wages, (compared to US wages).

Conclusion: Steve Jobs is a "Great Man".

Wall Street firm makes 5Billion in PROFIT last quarter.
Wall Street firm pays US traders, IT folks, etc, high salaries and bonus.

Conclusion: Wall Street is EVIL.

In reality, couldn't Apple be just as happy with 5B in profit and pay its Chinese laborers enough so that they can actually afford the iPad? Or maybe, Just maybe, pay their hipster US employees enough so that they might buy cars or houses? Nah!!! Let's just keep blaming Bush, Christianity, and Republicans for not giving them houses, cars and food for free.

I wasn't too impressed BEFORE he died either. I knew all about his business, and personal decisions regarding hiring, firing, outsourcing, charity, etc.. Why this prick got a free pass on all of that is a complete mystery to me.

Not granting your premise that "Steve Jobs is a 'Great Man'". But Apple produces stuff people seem to want. Wall Street crashed the economy in 2007.

"Angel" simply means "Messenger." So I could definitely think of him riding a bike in 100 degree heat in a busy city with a messenger bag.
