That'll really cheese off those Green Bay fans.

I've never seen a place so rabidly retarded about a football team than Wisconsin is about their Packers. This is worse than a rape abortion for them. Probably. They're drunk so that might change.

To be fair: Mike McCarthy is from Pittsburgh.

/To not be fair: Dan Rooney is Obama's ambassador to Ireland.

Despite the pressure from Wisconsinites and members of the media, he refused to don the famous cheesehead, the cap of Green Bay Packers fans.

Talk about a no-win situation for Paul.

Either look like a buffoon to the rest of the nation, or lose votes for his congressional seat in Wisconsin.

Of course he could have also refused to touch the terrible towel.

This article is for crap, that was Santorum, as the previous sentence said:

In April, then presidential candidate Santorum, a former Pennsylvania senator and lifelong Steelers fan, made a campaign trip to Wisconsin.

Something doesn't flow right, I had to read it 3 times in a row to figure it out myself. It states later that Ryan is a "lifelong Packers fan", so while I at first thought this was a non-story, I now realize that it's just shameless pandering which is annoying, and usually offensive to those being pandered to, once they realize it. Fark this Ryan dude.

You have to understand: There is absolutely *nothing* to do in/around GB. To have the most-storied NFL franchise in such a place is so farking weird that it drives everyone to madness. A good madness, but madness nonetheless.

I'm almost sure he'd never put on another jersey except for his home teams. Come on Paul...Wisconsin raised you better than to wave the colors of the opposing team.

Yeah? It's a pretty non-offensive way of unifying the fans. It could be worse, they could be vuvuzelas.

That said, SOME people don't wash their terrible towels, either ever, or for the duration of the season. Terrible towels are often soaked with old beer and filth by the end of a season.

I feel ya. I got out of there, fortunately.

I still remember a couple years back going to a sports bar to watch a UT vs Tech game, the one where Tech actually pulled off a win, and it was the same night as the OU v UNL game. Even though the Nebraska game was over in the first five minutes, the Sooners got 4 TDs, they still wouldn't put the Texas game on any TV insisting every TV play the Nebraska game. So, my table started cheering for the Sooners. I'm surprised we survived the night.

On second thought, that was a fun night, considering.

I only get the peripheral fans. I see more Steelers stickers all the way down here than I see for any other team. Without fail, I will see 4-5 stickers of a pit bull with a Steeler's collar peeing on something, just in 3 exits on my way to work in the AM. glassgrl: Head_Shot: halfof33: isn't he from Beloit? That is as much Bears country as it is Packers territory

He's from Janesville. I went to elem. school with him.

What was he like back then?

Funny part is that he was pretty much exactly the same...except we called him "P.D.", not Paul. To be fair, he was a really nice, friendly guy. I don't have anything negative to say about him, but he was also two grades below me, in my sister's class.

He now lives on the block adjacent to my childhood home, where my parents still live. I used to hide out in the backyard of the Parker mansion (his new house) when I was a kid. My parents say that the whole area is cordoned off by Secret Service, and I'll have to subject myself to a auto and body search if I visit.

I've probably said enough to ID myself.....but I don't care.

All he had to do was look at his running mate to understand that if you try to please everybody on everything you end up standing for nothing and being despised by everyone.

Pittsburgh fans would appreciate being loyal to your team more than they'll like you for pandering to theirs.

And in Wisconsin, supporting another team is like cheating on your wife. Supporting a conference rival is like cheating on your wife with a dog.

I could give a fark if he slights Wisconsinites since he already does so on a regular basis.

He's refused every invitation extended to him to visit the local job center in his hometown of Janesville, Wisconsin, even after several yearly invites by its director to see how things are going. He's not interested in job growth here. AT ALL.

Maybe. It wouldn't look good to put up a guy who lost two elections simultaneously. It's also possible that they are trying to sideline Ryan for a while. His budget is popular amongst hard liners but not so much in the mainstream. They may be looking at this as a chance to tie him to a sinking campaign to get his ideas off the table for a while. He's also really young. He could go do something else for the next 20 years and still be able to run for president.

Yes, head to head record is the only metric by which we should judge a superior team. We must therefore conclude that KC was better than the Packers last year since they won their only head to head meeting.

It is curious, I directly responded to a claim in your post, and you whined about it.

No you chucklefark, you implied that the Packers are not superior simply based upon head to head record, and I responded with the derision such an assertion deserved.

PACKERRRRRRS!

Never been to Pittsburgh eh?

Yeah I live here. Steelers fans are extremely retarded about this team. The Monday after a loss you can notice a palpable city wide depression.

Meanwhile on the other side of the state we have Philly, where if the team wins the fans get violent and people die. However, if they lose, the fans get more violent and more people die. Philadelphia, the city of brotherly love and sports-related riots.

The Democratic Party would do well to let this one go ... this just makes them look stupid and tacky.

To outsiders, you're probably right. But within Wisconsin, this plays very well. The democratic voting bases of Madison and Milwaukee don't really care. But the Republican stronghold areas are also the areas with the most rabid Packer supporters. Selling out the Packers on stage in another state could go a long way to undercut the support from the very people that they need in order to win this state in November.

drjekel_mrhyde: stpauler: I've never seen a place so rabidly retarded about a football team than Wisconsin is about their Packers.

This. I really don't get why there are so many Packer fans in Milwaukee when their city is closer to Chicago than Green Bay

For what it is worth, until the 1990's Green Bay actually played many of their home games in Milwaukee in the old County Stadium (home of the Brewers) So historically, the Packers were at least in part, a home team to Milwaukee as well. But even though that is long gone, there is enough of a rivalry between the two cities carried over from other sports that you aren't likely to see too many Wisconsinites cheering for a Chicago team.

His budget is popular amongst hard liners but not so much in the mainstream. They may be looking at this as a chance to tie him to a sinking campaign to get his ideas off the table for a while. He's also really young. He could go do something else for the next 20 years and still be able to run for president.

Unless they think he's the next FDR, that isn't going to end well. He and John "His Accidency" Tyler are the only people who have come back from a failed VP bid to become President. And Tyler got there only because he was VP under William Henry Harrison.

Doesn't matter. Your team is your team. The only time it even begins to be remotely acceptable to root for someone else is when your team is already hopelessly out of the race (or eliminated outright) and you need to rent someone to remain invested for the rest of the season. Not 'they're not going to do anything this year'. Not 'the season's off to a bad start, here we go again'. Out. Five-games-down-with-four-to-play out.

The Packers are not out. Nobody is. It's the preseason.

This is sports man. Irrational loyalty is ... part of the culture. I have lived in DC for 5 years. I still tune into Eagles games. My brother lived in Dallas for longer. They had an entire bar for ex-pat Philadelphians to root for the Eagles, even in the heart of Cowboy country.

For Paul Ryan to don the traditions of another team is worse than running for office as a different political party. He is a traitor, and a flim flam, and no good will come of this.
