Maybe if they weren't so strict about who they allow in their stores...

Well, if they carried more Dapper Dan, maybe they wouldn't be having these financial problems?

Maybe that should be their new tag line

"Woolworth's - we're some kind of geographical oddity"

Woolworths has also been in a battle for dominance of Australia's supermarket sector with rival Coles, owned by conglomerate Wesfarmers Ltd. (WES.AU), which has wooed customers with discounts and aggressive advertising campaigns.

In the Grocery business, the profit is in volume and it is no place for the little guys, however Wal-Mart was once a very small store.

Woolworths Limited are everywhere Australia. They are the largest supermarket in the country. They also own a number of other outlets (department, liquor, hotels, fuel etc)
They are are duopoly with another supermarket chain, which is why we pay twice as much for everything. And they just got extended trading hours in this state so fark you small business.
Arseholes.

But you're in Australia. Can't you just get the Euro economy to fix all that?

They have a store in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. For years, it was the only place in town where you could buy just a toilet seat, not the whole unit.

Wow. They are still in business? The one here closed 20 years ago

I will always associate Woolworth stores with the smell of fish food.

The second you walked into that place you just knew they had a little aquarium section back there.

The last Woolworth's in my hometown closed in the late 1980s. I miss that place, I have no idea why though.

I also have fond memories of the Woolworth's in Waikiki on Kalakaua Avenue.

I was at a mall near Perth recently and I was confused by the fact that it had both a Coles and a Woolworths in close proximity... Those are the two companies you were referring to, right?

/glad about the extended hours though...
