Given everything that Frank Shamrock says about Ken, I'm not surprised.

Then I RTFA and it actually sounds like he didn't do anything wrong. He got attacked trying to break up a fight, knocked his attacker to the ground, then realized it was a woman and backed off.

If he gets sued, it's because he's famous and they assume he has money. However, the joke's on them - he's notoriously broke.

That is hilarious.

They didnt have judges in UFC for a long time? 30 minute matches ending as draws seems like bull shiat. Tie goes to the defending champ I guess.

I have to find a link to a website I used to read. They had big write ups on every UFC event, and how the rules changed due to fights like that. Also, I think I remember something about a tournament where they kept fighting in the same day and due to injuries, the two fighters in the finals were two alternates.

Quick googling, shows I wasn't right but there were a couple of funky tournaments: UFC 3 which was won by an alternate and UFC 11 where they ran out of alternates and one of the finalists was too tired and forfeited the match before it began. Fun times.

Looks like Ken Shamrock forgot his blue diamonds and purple horseshoes.

He's trying to stop the fight, get him! W T F.

One of the best MMA fighters ever? Really? Maybe he had one of the best promotion machines, but from the early UFC days, he didn't really dominate. Folks like Severn and Taktarov were far, far better fighters. I wouldn't even put Shamrock in the upper tiers.

Ken's best fights were in Pancrase. You can't really discount a guy with two wins over Bas Rutten.

I think it was UFC 3 that Royce Gracie had to drop out of the final match because, even though he won his fight against Kimo, he was too injured to fight again in the tournament.

Yeah, when the UFC really started getting going he was on his way down. I wouldn't say he was one of the best UFC fighters, but he was a war horse for the UFC. His best fighting days was when he was a shoot fighter in Japan.

Shamrock was a monster at one time...

As someone already posted...tapping out Bas Rutten...not just once, but twice...
Makes you a pretty bad motherfarker.

But, alas...fighting styles change...age catches up to folks...

And as Marcellus Wallace knows...pride starts farkin with you...
Ken did not know how to say "fark PRIDE!"...and continued to fight until his legacy fell far, far away and the stuff of jokes leapt to the forefront.

Sad...

I'd highly recommend those early fights... it gives you a good indication of how the sport has evolved. In the days of Ken Shamrock and Tank Abbot the octogon was the farking Thunderdome. People left the cage having seizures and winners left with their hands a bloody stump, unable to continue.

It was a BJJ wankfest for a while, the Gracie family just showing off how much better they were than everyone else, but people learned quick. That 30 minute Shamrock fight was about when I stopped watching UFC and about the time it stopped putting fights on PPV. Shamrock and Severn danced in circles for about 40 minutes, punched each other maybe twice. Even holding down FF on my VCR, the fight was too long. It was pathetic.
