I don't understand this. If you know that working at Burger King would require you to wear pants.....why work there if you don't want to wear pants? That would be like a woman working at Hooters who didn't want to wear the orange shorts.

I have no problem with this. According to the article the hiring manager had no problem with her need to wear skirts, while the on-duty manager sent her home because of it. If that's what happened then she should win. Pretty simple, really.

They have a copy of god's laundry list or something?

That said, I can see it being an argument for freedom of religion and discrimination, regardless of how absurd the premise.

Of course I can also see the argument that the business has the right to enforce a dress code (even though I think that those too can be ridiculous sometimes).

Ah well, religion creating conflict where there would otherwise be none...as usual.

I don't understand how pants are men's attire. Pants didn't exist in bible times, and although men first wore pants, women have been wearing pants for decades now. At any rate, if they told her she could wear a skirt, then they should have stuck with that. But I think it's kind of a safety thing with an open grill and fry vats. You do not want to get spatter or hot oil on your legs if it drips off.

Article dances around (IANAL) what seems to be the actual legal issue here: was she terminated or not?

From the actual description of the event, it sounds like she was not allowed to work by an assistant manager, tried to contact the manager that hired her, and stopped showing up for work in the future. Does that constitute a termination for her religious beliefs or is that her quitting after an assistant manager that was unaware of the implications sent her home on her shift?

And blouses...there have been periods of time when men wore shirts that were far more girlie than anything a woman wears today.... Clearly the only safe thing a woman can do is go around naked. Otherwise you may anger His Nibs.

And what makes these damned Christians think that companies should ben...okay, actually I don't have a problem with this. They apparently told her she could wear a skirt. Though from reading the article it sounds more like managers not communicating with each other than anything else. And then handling it badly afterwards. Ah well, maybe a fat lawsuit will change their mind.

Incidentally, does anyone know if lawsuits count as income for tithing?

Ironically, not because I'm gay, but the fact that my dads family are Irish Catholics, and my mom's are Polish Jews.

I've worked with some Pentecostal women before. They had additionally explained to me that they also don't wear pants because it is supposed to get the men folk all riled up being able to see their legs and stuff.

Their skirts were always ankle length and were as close to dress code as possible. If it said khaki pants they wore khaki skirts, black dress slacks they wore black dress skirts etc. I never saw it being an issue for them in regards to movement or safety as they weren't fitted or too long or too short. They were actually really sensible as far as required clothing goes.

I've worked at a few restaurants long ago, and have seen guys sent home to change because they were wearing shorts.
It's a safety issue. There's an awful lot of hot grease splattering around.

Don't believe me? Try frying some bacon in your underwear some time.

The bible tells her she can't wear man pants, and she will follow that. I'm Catholic, I know, Farkers hate Catholics, but one thing I've learned being Catholic, if you take away most of the leaders in the church, the followers aren't anywhere near as whacky as this, or maybe I just don't know enough Catholics. Probably both.

Christian apologists have a love/hate relationship with the Old Testament. They like to tell you it's the Word of God and you have to follow it but then they make excuses for some of the crazy stuff it says.

For example there was that kook judge that wanted the Ten Commandments on the courthouse lawn yet if you show him in Numbers where God commands his people to take a village and kill all the men and burn down all the buildings and take all the virgin women as sex slaves then he would probably say that God isn't like that anymore.

The Old testament has lots of rape and murder wholly endorsed by God. Christians like to say some stuff about Jesus and a new covenant and such and say God really is a pleasant fellow now ever since Jesus but if they can use an Old Testament verse to tell you how great they are or how awful you are then they won't hesitate to do so.
