Wow, is that an actual concrete policy proposal? My head asplode.

To be fair, his policy is supposed to create energy dependence for North America, not the United States.

Either Romney is lying, or he's not aware that oil is sold on the world market to the highest bidder. Being that Romney is a reasonable intelligent guy, I must assume he's lying and playing the American people for a bunch of uninformed idiots. Unless he intends to require that American oil companies purchase their oil from North American producers, which will no doubt drive the price up due to a lack of competition from foreign oil companies, his policy cannot possibly work.

welll the bakkan oil field is on that pipeline, isnt it ? yup it is ...
so partly correct

what's CUTE is the funny idea that more local oil would lead to cheaper prices.
as long as we are exporting gasline, cant we assume gas prices wont go down?
NOW, if that same gas had to be sold in the US, prices would fall some ... LOL

fungible supply and demand. HOW DOES IT WORK??

We are drilling more in the U.S. now than at any time during the Bush 43 presidency. The market is flooded with oil. There is no rational reason for the price to be as high as it is save for "people will pay it."

Mitt is in a tough position here: He lies constantly and is also too stupid to know when to stop. We will NEVER be free from foreign oil. That's like pledging to take away guns from Americans. The genie is so far out of the bottle it can't even see the bottle in its rear view mirror.

One of the keys to American Energy Independence is a pipeline that takes oil sand from Canada, through the heartland, to the gulf coast, where it is shipped off to China...

We can go put our hand on the pipeline and just feel all that energy flowing to China. That will be fun.

That seemed to be the gist of Sarah Palin's incomprehensible gibberish too:

Oil and coal? Of course, it's a fungible commodity and they don't flag, you know, the molecules, where it's going and where it's not. But in the sense of the Congress today, they know that there are very, very hungry domestic markets that need that oil first. So, I believe that what Congress is going to do, also, is not to allow the export bans to such a degree that it's Americans that get stuck to holding the bag without the energy source that is produced here, pumped here. It's got to flow into our domestic markets first.

Best I can tell, they're both advocating some sort of near-nationalization of domestic energy markets.

2012-08-23 11:31:30 PM
And he's going to do it with just oil, gas, and coal. He wants to cut solar and wind credits completely.

And here's my favorite part. His claim is three million new jobs in fossil fuels (and we'd be lucky to see 30,000). Meanwhile, in the last decade, sustainable energy have experienced steady and continuous growth.

/people who eat his BS need to go back to 7th grade

And, keep in mind, the Canadian tar sands oil is being refined no problemo in the Midwest. The only purpose of the Keystone XL pipelines is to get as much oil as possible to the Gulf for easy sale to international markets.

That's why the lower leg from Cushing to the Coast was separated form the original proposal and pushed through independently.

Short term gain sold to the Yellow Peril for pennies by greed-whores. You don't burn "our" oil first, you burn theirs and any they can get at. Come at me, oil-less Bro - ie USA to Japan in most of 1941.

Is it possible at all to consider that perhaps we should find alternate fuel sources rather than gasoline power?

Romney's plan for the future assumes that we have to use gasoline forever. We know it's supply is ultimately limited. Why dig a bunch of holes in the ground in pristine wilderness in Alaska and oceanic water inhabited by living creatures when in time we'll still run out of fuel?

How about we look to have more hybrid and electric vehicles on the road which will reduce demand as well as reduce carbon emissions as well as provide an opening to a future that has no reliance on oil foreign nor domestic?

AdolfOliverPanties: We will NEVER be free from foreign oil

Yes, we will. Oil is a finite resource, and eventually run out.

Much of our domestic oil is extremely expensive (north of $100 barrel), just to extract from the ground. The question is, should we extract it now while oil is still a relatively plentiful commodity and foreign countries are happy to sell it to us, or should we keep our oil for as long as possible as a sort of de facto oil reserve for when many of the major players like Saudi and Iran start to find themselves pumping less and less oil out of their wells?

2012-08-23 11:36:45 PM
You mean helping some oil get to a wider market instead of keeping it convenient to sell to the U.S. will help drive up our prices?

Party Boy: It reads like a collection of FOX news talking points from the last 4 years.

From Wikipedia:
Skynet was originally installed by the military to control the national arsenal on August 4, 1997, at which time it began learning at a geometric rate. On August 29, it gained self-awareness[1], and the panicking operators, realizing the extent of its abilities, tried to deactivate it. Skynet perceived this as an attack and came to the conclusion that all of humanity would attempt to destroy it. To defend itself, Skynet launched nuclear missiles under its command at Russia, which responded with a nuclear counter-attack against the U.S. and its allies. As a result of the nuclear exchange, over three billion people were killed in an event that came to be known as Judgment Day.

1997, and still, Obama has done nothing.

Not to mention it will be routed over one of the world's largest underground sources of fresh water, which supplies 1/4 of the fresh water used to irrigate American crops. I'm sure Rmoney will reply that our grains are only a little oily, they're still good!

2012-08-23 11:39:57 PM
Yeah Keystone XL sounds like a great idea until you realize the oil is 80% tar. It will break the pipeline repeatedly because tar doesn't flow that well.

Keystone XL would be better served as a finished or partially finished product pipeline. But then someone would have to build a refinery somewhere and the bananas are always in the way.

2012-08-23 11:40:50 PM
I'm more impressed that his energy policy is going to create enough jobs to employe more than 10% of the working aged population in the U.S! Just vote for Mitt, and unemployment will be NON EXISTENT!

+1 Campaign points for actually taking a damned position
-1 For it being an issue no one cares about anymore
-1 Again for the more general issue being something that the target audience (righties) don't care about either

One step forward, two steps back.
