Really? I guess Roger Ailes is probably more on-target, yes?

I would not be surprised if it turns out ratings on FOX news are higher when there is an "enemy" in the whitehouse than when there is a friendly in the whitehouse. Conservatives are more afraid with a democrat in the whitehouse than they are with a republican in the whitehouse and when they're afraid they tune in to FOX for their talking points and instructions.

Well, they have to be fair and balance out the 24 hours a day of propaganda they give to the Republican party?

Plus Ailes still gets his way if the Senate and Congress have a GOP majority, giving the GOP 2/3rds of the current government.

2012-08-23 09:22:12 PM
Well yeah. Without Obama, you have no conservative outrage. They would have to make up more as opposed to have something readily available. You don't think Fox News is in the business of just making stuff up, do you?

2012-08-23 09:22:41 PM
It's just self interest. Each side is many things, but the Republicans are, because of the whole values thing, more likely to continue and increase media censorship. Just as an oil company will try to get Republicans in power, so too will even the lowest of the conservative rags donate more to Democrats. Free market, no?

$60K seems kinda low. Rush Limbaugh can't pad his retirement without Obama in the White House and Fox needs them, too, as you pointed out. F*ckers won't even pay for their meal ticket.

Hatred and derp for another 4 years drives ratings more than Mittron 2000. And if they can frame their lying narrative even more tautly, they can get a better candidate than Mittron 2000 in 2016.

Yeah, apparently being a celebrity is now a liberal thing. Did you read the article? Murdoch praised him for his ability to create paywalls and sell paper.

coeyagi: Did you read the article? Murdoch praised him for his ability to create paywalls and sell paper.

And also had his newspaper endorse the guy...I believe Murdoch to be a pragmatist "middle of the road" type of guy who leans Republican on most issues but since the Democrats have moved so far right that they are essentially Republicans circa 1993, I think he goes either way depending upon the election.

Doesn't seem like he's quite the big Rawmoney supporter, either...

Considering Obama's re-election would guarantee four more years of angry conservatives tuning in, I'm surprised they didn't donate more.

Haven't the sued before to ensure their news reporters have to say what they are told to say, even if they know it is a lie?

Plus some of the commentators have said publicly before they don't believe half of what they say, it is just for the show - didn't someone like Beck say something to this effect on The View a few years back, for example?

I think it was O'Reiley. But it was definitely one OR the other, and yeah if you look at how they've parodied themselves for a paycheck (Iron Man/Colbert Report for O'Reily, the Family Guy Star Wars specials for Limbaugh), it becomes pretty clear that it's a character they're playing.
