Bishop cuts costs, consolidates congregations, cuts child care facilities to the bones and then after exhorting his flock to live the simple life, flies off in first class to go ogle some poor people and then comes back denies it, threatens to sue and drives around in an uber expensive car while his 5.5 million dollar new residence get built.

That about it?

Lawls. And the RCC wonder why they are having trouble getting new converts. Wotta hypocrite this twat is.

Franz-Peter Tebartz-van Elst? Of, FFS, even his name is ostentatious.

Whenever I see how churches spend the money they take in, I always wonder why tithing to a church is considered a form of "charity," rather than simply "membership dues."

The bishop says he knows nothing about all this secretiveness. He says he didn't order it, that it doesn't exist. Speaking through his lawyer, he adds: "There is nothing to hide on the construction site."

So then he'll have no problem giving Spiegel a completely guided tour with no places offlimits & no conditions placed on the photographer.....

Reminds me of this time I met with a catholic priest for some background research on something I was writing.

We passed the kitchen during the interview, and he proudly pointed out the very well appointed kitchen, the personal cooks they had, and the steaks they were preparing for the clergy's dinner. I got the feeling from his tone and portly build that this was a regular occurrence.

I could not afford steak at that time in my life; I could barely afford a cheapo burger from anywhere. Yet, somehow, the clergy were supposed to be the ones that vowed poverty.

No, the subby had it right. While "several" is a fuzzy number, it definitely is more than two, and the church has only been around for two millenia

He has all the makings of a first class Protestant tele-evangelist. Rex Humbard and Benny Hinn got nothing on this dude's lack of shame.

"In 2004, the Archdiocese of Boston sold its cardinal's mansion and 44 surrounding acres to Boston College for $99 million to help pay claims to victims of clergy sex abuse.

"And as Detroit spiraled deeper into crime and poverty late in the last century, it became increasingly embarrassing to the Catholic community that its cardinal retired each night to the city's largest home.

"In 1989 the archdiocese sold the 40,000-square-foot giant to Detroit Pistons star John Salley."

Many other examples out there.

This is why I believe that ZERO money donated to churches should be tax deductible. They aren't paying for charity.

You can't claim the money you pay to "Maria the palm reader" on your taxes, can you? Same difference, different scam.

You know it's been about few years since I graduated from the Handsome Boy Modeling School became the Pope. And I just want to say that it's changed my life. Since my graduation I've traveled to Prague, Milan, Paris, and Buffalo New York. And I now drive a fifty thousand dollar LaForce Automobile. With total suede package, with subwolfers, and specially designed custom glass rims. Also, in my closet, shoes. So many shoes you cannot believe and next to it a drawer with the socks, full of the socks, more than enough for each pair of shoes. Yes that's a many. And the boys. Let me tell you, the boys, my God. I can't go into the details, let's just say, I know all about the secret garden.

So let me just say "thank you" from nearby the bottom of my heart. To Nate and Chest for showing me that beauty is truly in the Eye of the Tiger.

Yeah I've always wondered about the extravagance shown by the upper echelons of the church. A solid 24 ct gold papal dildo was really where I drew the line.

This is really sad... I feel bad for Catholics.

I have a hard enough time with the LDS temples in the area and they aren't even a tenth as richly appointed. Built to survive a nuclear blast plus ten thousand years of weather, sure. Encrusted in gold and jewels? No.

Not every priest is like that. I went to a Jesuit college, and the priest who said the late Mass on Sunday would invite all the people who helped out with Mass to dinner afterward at the Jesuit Residence. Some of the most memorable "college bull sessions" I had were there.

Well I'm not a Catholic, but if I had to demand my price for remaining abstinent for the rest of my life, this guy is starting to get into my ballpark. I'm presuming here he's not farking altar boys. Which may be an outrageous assumption on my part.
