Derek,

Come on. Why did you have to dignify that guy with comment?

Sincerely,
A guy who can't find it in himself to hate you despite being a Mets fan

Skip is the lowest form of journalist. Unfortunately, he also represents the most common form for journalist.

Skip is a mega troll...wonder what his Fark handle is?

2012-08-23 04:04:54 PM
I figured he would've gone with "go test his urine for THC," but a strict Pee Wee Herman defense is okay too.

I just want to know where I can get HGH from....
Seriously.

2012-08-23 04:22:29 PM
Of course Felger and Maz were defending Skip. A caller brought up Paul Molitor's 96 season and they got tongue tied and sand bagged.

FTFDJ: "Whenever you have people that anytime you bring something like this to light with guys that are doing things," the shortstop responded, "it's like, now you have everybody questioning everything. "That's the unfortunate thing. Maybe Skip should be tested."

Hm. I realize Mr. Jeter's job is to play baseball & not argue with assholes. And I know what he's trying to say, but this argument could be torn to bits by 7th graders. HGH would not give Skip a performance advantage in his career. What he SHOULD'VE SAID was "maybe skip should be tested for his asshole being on the wrong end." Or "maybe skip should be tested for dangerously low IQ before he hurts himself." Or "If Skip's such an investigative genius, maybe they should give him his own CSI show. YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!" Hm, that last one might be about 10 years out of date.....

As much as it pains me to do, I agree with Jeter. But that's probably because after Josh Hamilton had his 4 HR game, I spent way too much time defending him against people who insisted that he must be on drugs. So nobody can just have an awesome game without some f'ing armchair sleuth trying to prove they're cheating? Sometimes our superstars have amazing games.

Ugh. Glad that's over. At least I wasn't agreeing with anything A-Rod-related. Blech.

Right. You'd have to blow (at least) Derek Jeter but you'd probably also get a nice take out meal and a ride in a fancy car.

I would have suggested that Skip be tested for Valtrex, but good job by Jeter nonetheless.

It's not like baseballs biggest stars have ever been involved with PED's. This baseless accusation came out of nowhwere.

I saw Jeter give the quote on the post game. They didn't show the question being asked, but it sounded a lot like Jeter was responding to a quote from a guy he'd never heard of. My first impression was that he thought Skip Bayless was a minor league journeyman who wanted to grab a headline.

As a die hard DFW fan, you should know that Josh currently OD's daily on drugs. His drug of choice? Main lining 8balls of sweet Jeebus. Seriously, what would that guy be like if he wasn't such a zealot with drugs and the God almighty?

Sorry to thread jack... after reading this article, I hate Jeter less. It's amazing how Bayless can make anyone smell like a rose after his very articulated and well versed reports. I'm amazed that he actually gets paid to do what he does. He definitely deserves a c*ckpunch.

This, and Kevin Long trying to manipulate Jeter's swing so he wasn't diving out over the plate with every pitch. I get that Jeter gets hit more than the average hitter, and that the retooling was more of a preventative measure than an effort to correct a glitch, but some swings just don't need to be messed with. When he rehabbed from his injury with his old instructor, he scrapped the re-tooled swing and got back to getting base hits.

That made me laugh on the out louds. But really, the 8balls of sweet Jeebus is keeping the guy off of the actual 8balls, so I'm actually fine with that.

As a Mariners fan (shut up, 2nd best record since the All-Star break now that we got rid of that cancer known as Ichiro), I myself can't find a reason why to hate Jeter. Seems like a nice enough guy, and Skip is scum.

Would've still held him over a barrel for a huge check if I'd caught that 3,000th hit, though.

"Sportswriters are a kind of rude and brainless subculture of fascist drunks whose only real function is to publicize & sell whatever the sports editor sends them out to cover...
Which is a nice way to make a living, because it keeps a man busy and requires no thought at all. The two keys to success as a sportswriter are 1) a blind willingness to believe anything you're told by the coaches, flacks, hustlers and other "official spokesmen" for the team-owners who provide the free booze... and: 2) a Roget's Thesaurus, in order to avoid using the same verbs and adjectives twice in the same paragraph." -Hunter S. And what makes anyone think he's just now started using them?

As much as I despise Skip, "You know what? You would have to have your head in the sand or your head somewhere else to not at least wonder, how is he doing this?" is a fair thing to say given recent events and the cloud of PEDs that still hangs over the game. Two years ago, the guy moved like his legs weighed 150 lbs each, and now he's having one of the best years of his career. You're being naive if you're 100% positive that certain people haven't done or at least considered doing them.

2012-08-24 10:33:33 AM

RonwellQuincyDobbs: now he's having one of the best years of his career.

No he's not. By OPS+, this is his 10th best season. Even if you only care about batting average, it's 7th best. By OBP, it's actually 13th.

Pretty much the only way you can say this is one of the best years of his career is if you mean "if you list all of his years from best to worst, this season is on it!"

2012-08-24 10:35:38 AM
Skip, you are a prolific reporter - so much so that I am wondering if you aren't just plaigarizing articles from other sources. I have done exactly zero research on this claim and I have no proof except that you publish so many stories....but it makes me wonder. Any comment?

Fair enough. He's still undergoing a resurgent season at a late age and looked awfully close to retirement two years ago. All I'm saying is that it's not unreasonable to think he has some help.

2012-08-24 10:46:24 AM
it would be refreshing to see a journalist who has actually done his research and have some 'evidence' that at least points towards something suspicious before making allegations, but once again its some dbag talking out his ass

Look at hits. But just hits. Not doubles, triples, or home runs because this won't be one of his top five years in any of those categories (well, maybe doubles if he surges in the final month). And now here's the key part: ignore that his walk rate is at a career low, which means he's putting more balls in play than ever before, and hence getting more hits but also making more outs than he did in his prime years.

FTFA - "Jeter could be on to something with this one. But instead of a blood test for HGH, Bayless might be better off taking a DNA one. Then, we can find out whether he actually is part troll."

Seems to me they're not seeing the whole picture where Skip is concerned. We know he's part troll. One only has to look at his body of "work". What he really needs to do is take a DNA test to check for the presence of all or part of a third copy of chromosome 21. This would most likely confirm many a long held suspicion about Mr. Bayless.
