This is good news. Both Target's employees and their customers are of a better class. I can check out a woman at Target without needing eye-condoms.

Yup. We have a Super Target near here and their store food brands, while slightly more expensive, are leaps and bounds above most other brands in quality.

I tried a Wal-Mart store brand once and nearly vomited.

Bizarrely, I've had really crappy luck with Target. I've actually got better quality from Walmart.

Hmm, not around here. Our 2 super targets we mostly use for baby stuff or odds and ends. We have 3 walmarts and each has infinitely better golf stuff, dog/pet stuff, outdoor stuff, better grocery, and much better coffee selection.

/Though I do agree on the better eye candy at target though

Almost everywhere I've lived, Walmart is closer and open 24 hours. Produce/meat/etc. I'll go to a grocery store for, but I'll usually get a bulk of my items at Walmart.

There's a chain in the Great Lakes area: Meijer Thrifty Acres. Like Walmart, but with vast amounts of good groceries and not otherwise filled entirely with cheap crap. Prices are pretty much the same as at Wally-Mart. However, the stores are clean, the employees are decently paid, the checkout lines are short.

So, you can have a Walmart type store that isn't a complete shiat-hole and a parasite on the community. Probably it has something to do with paying your employees a reasonable wage and treating them decently.

I'm a Target fan. I just hope they don't sacrifice the quality and reputation advantage they have in a desperate attempt to be cheaper than Walmart. It's not a high end store... I know that... But I'd happily spend an extra 10-20% at Target for household items, toiletries, clothes, etc over setting foot in a Walmart.

I think either Walmart will fold or Target will. There just isn't enough people in Canada to shop at both and have both make as much as they should

Also, shiat won't be cheaper, it's only cheap in the U.S, in Canada it'll be the same as Walmart price wise
so people will still cross border shop like crazy

I shop at Target and Walmart almost equally (not very often..maybe once every 2 months if that). No matter what I buy that is electronic/electric/uses batteries from Target, it ALWAYS breaks. A Philips VCR lasted about a month before it crapped out. I bought a digital timer that was defective right in the package, but according to the Amazon reviews, they were made like this (wouldn't hold the program!). Then had a Remington beard trimmer that was so awful, it basically broke in half when I first used it. Walmart...meh....I've never had to return any defective/shoddy product there. Target does have some good stuff (the loss leader bookshelves are actually made in the U.S.A. and are quite sturdy), but their prices on health and beauty-type shiat and general household merchandise is outrageous. I can buy cheaper non-food items at the grocery store.

Look, the fact that there's some sort of debate between Target and Wal-Mart is silly. Their profit margins are probably within a few percentage points of each other. The quality of the products they both carry is probably the same - just barely above 'secondhand' quality, or less. Target's probably 5% more expensive than Wal-Mart, but they 'feel' like they have more quality due to the layout of the store and selection, but you probably get more actual value from your dollar at Wal-Mart. They both suck, unless you need that weird item at 1 am, in which case Wal-Mart is the only place on earth you can find it at that hour, and this means Target loses handily.

I shop at Target simply because I want nothing to do with the 24/4 freak show that is Walmart's customer base.
