Pretty much.

Here's the explanation, in a nutshell, by the author of the study himself:

Making the wrong assumption here could be fatal, particularly to those seniors with the gravest health needs. If managed care plans are able to select healthier enrollees-by skimping on benefits in ways that get around whatever regulations (if any) the Romney-Ryan plan put in place-traditional Medicare will end up with less healthy seniors, driving up its costs. The system will spiral out of control. The costs will proportionately rise and the guarantee of benefits that is the core of the Medicare program would erode. That is why many economists are wary of a pure premiums support model.

OK? Is that clear enough for everyone who is bound to be in here telling us that vouchers will work because blah blah blah?

Why yes, they were on a Cadillac and an Audi. How did you guess?

Its funny you mention that... I have yet to see a Romney bumper sticker this cycle.

The word you are all looking for is mendacity. As in, every time Mitt Romney walks into a room, he fills it with the powerful and obnoxious odor of mendacity.

2012-08-23 03:33:01 PM
He can lie all he wants, Fox and the other right wing 'news' isn't going to cover it. Sure they'll play a clip of the lie to get it out there, but they wont be calling Mitt out on it. Mitt's base wont get their news anywhere else.

If Mitt says it and Fox etc. doesn't deny it, then it's true for a lot of people. It doesn't matter if what he says is a lie.
Mitt knows this, and he doesn't mind using it to his advantage.

/now Fox, make sure to project what you, Mitt and the GOP are doing here at all the other news outlets and the democrats.
//haha look who I'm talking to...I'm sure Fox is already working on it.

Previously, on 'They Young and the Romney':

Romney: Let the auto industry go bankrupt.
Obama: *saves auto industry*
Romney: My dad would have totally fired you guys.
Obama: Romney wanted to let the auto plants go bankrupt.
Romney: I said let them go bankrupt, I didn't say let them...wait, no I did. Good one there Obama.
Obama: Romney closed down steel plants.
Romney: Hey what? Hey I've created jobs.
Obama: True. Romney has created jobs. In India and China.
Romney: Hey did you know Obama's renewable energy policies has moved jobs overseas?
Obama: You mean like how the wind industry in the US has basically doubled in three years on the job?
Romney: I can't hear you Obummer. Hey, I'm gonna go overseas to watch my dressage horse cheat taxes for me and hopefully win a gold medal while insulting the UK. Hey btw did I mention how awesome I am at the Olympics?
UK: Wanker.
UK Media: Wanker.
Romney: Hey now...the crazy right wing Israeli likes me.
Netanyahu: We should blow up Iran....
Romney: Haha, he's kidding. Guys he's kidding. He is kidding, right?
Netanyahu: f*cking waste those a-holes.
Media: Wow so your whole overseas tour is kind of a flop huh.
Romney: You forgot about Poland! I'm popular with Poland's president! Just not with the people.
Obama: Oh hey guys did you also know that when steel plant workers lose their jobs and healthcare it can result in people dying?
Romney: That's taken totally out of context. Let my PR person explain it.
Andrea Saul: Well, if they had health care they probably would have survived and...
RightWingDerpStorm: WTF DID U SAY? WTF DID U SAY!
Romney: Ummm...Lemon. Wet. Good.
Reid: Hey Romney while you're off sipping lemonade, I've got a source says you didn't pay taxes for 10 years.
Romney: *spits out lemonade* Oh yeah? Prove it.
Obama: So you're not denying it. Also hey here's a tax scandal linked to Romney's work when he was in charge of taxes at Marriott.
Romney: God this lemonade is sour. Who made it, some wetback at Golden Corral?
Little old lady: I did. *cries*
Paultards: See? You see what you f*ckos did? You nominated the biggest douchenozzle in existence.
Gingrich: *ahem* second biggest
Obama: *eats popcorn*

Romney: Hey, This study by these Harvard economists say my approach to Medicare would work!

Lunaville: Is Harvard now a bastion of liberal thought and activity?

Note, that the Romney plan to screw with medicare is carefully timed to avoid ticking off the boomers. He'll have no problem raking in boomer votes. I can't speak to all boomers, but I know my parents could not care less if I and my siblings starve in our old age.

I'm a boomer, and I can assure you I do not like where this country is headed if Romney wins. It will be a disaster for all but the VERY wealthy. You must remember that Mormons believe that ONLY Mormons can go to heaven (some mystical place of which I known nothing) and therefore only Mormons are acceptable. This is hard core, rigid Mormon belief. I've known several in my life and aside from trying to convert me they were very nice people but it was made clear that Mormons were special, better and the only ones who mattered in the FSM's Universe. We fix all of our problems if we don't cap social security and medicare tax at 200,000 or whatever the number is now and we remove the stupid deductions, like Romney's wife's horse, German giggolo and fancy outfit at the Olympics, etc. He should be paying 25% in taxes at the least, not 13. But don't get me started on the Mormon's and the CIA . . . (see previous post)

Actually, that's not quite correct. In fact, of all of the Christian sects who claim to be the One True Christian Faith (at least ½ of the 33,800+ Christian variants to date [this number comes from a Christian source, BTW!) that I know of, only the LDS faith believes that it is indeed the One True Faith yet does not believe that only members of said faith go to Heaven.

The LDS belief is that absolutely everyone who has ever been born, no exceptions, is saved from eternal death by the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, by grace alone, with nothing needing to be done ― not even uttering some Prayer of Acceptance of Jesus Christ as Personal Savior. Because He
broke the bands of death, everyone gets physically resurrected.

Almost everyone will also be saved from eternity in the Lake of Fire, which the LDS (and Jesus) refer to as "outer darkness," and this is by the Atonement of Jesus Christ, by grace alone. No baptism or other ordinance is needed for this. All that is required is refraining from committing the Unpardonable Sin. To commit the Unpardonable Sin, you have to actually deny the Holy Ghost after having fully experienced a direct manifestation thereof. Some atheist taking the Blasphemy Challenge does not qualify and is not committing the Unpardonable Sin. Far from Mormons being the only ones in Heaven, the opposite is pretty much the case: in this day and age, one pretty much has to be or have been a Mormon to even be capable of committing the Unpardonable Sin, becoming a Son of Perdition, and thus failing to be saved from eternity in outer darkness aka the Lake of Fire! In all of humanity in all of history, the total number of Sons of Perdition is likely in the three, maybe four, digits. Everyone else is saved to at least the degree of not being cast into the Lake of Fire for all eternity.

The vast majority of mankind will achieve at least the Telestial Kingdom, which is in many ways like our mortal existence but, of course, without mortality.

Everyone of any faith or even no faith at all who has lived according to whatever religion or creed or law or code of conduct or philosophy or whatever that s/he holds to be morally and ethically authoritative in his or her life can achieve the Terrestrial Kingdom without ever becoming Christian, let alone LDS, in mortality nor in the afterlife. This is pretty much what most mainstream Christians think that Heaven is like.

It is true that one must be at least baptized and confirmed in the LDS faith or the equivalent in past dispensations in order to achieve the Celestial Kingdom, which is way better than what most mainstream Christians think that Heaven is like. But this is only the top level of Heaven, not Heaven as a whole.

(South Park gets it wrong in this regard. And besides, the "God" character of South Park is a self-proclaimed Buddhist, not Mormon, despite only allowing Mormons into South Park's Heaven." Also, the fact that "God" looks so absolutely ludicrously inhuman is likewise a flagrant contradiction with the LDS faith [which believes that we are literally God's children and that thus He is of human form], causing a paradox which I'm pretty sure Matt and Trey have done deliberately.)

In short, in LDS belief, nearly everyone will get a post-resurrection eternity at least as good as what they were expecting, without having to join the LDS faith.

to be fair, "good" is subjective. so "wet" is the only true thing he has going for him.

cman: "Lying", in my humble opinion, is not an appropriate tag when one describes Romney. I think it is more befitting to call him "dishonest". Lying and dishonesty are not always the one in the same

I disagree, to a certain extent.

Romney's comments are reliably untrue, which makes him to a certain point trustworthy. He doesn't use half-truth or manipulate fact to suit his own end; his comments are reliably falsehoods, or fabrications.

In that regard he can't even be considered a pathological liar, borderline or even sociopathic. A keystone of dishonesty in any of those is the interweaving of fact and truth into lies to increase their semblance of credibility. Romney's just a shiatty liar.

2012-08-23 06:49:54 PM
It's funny to me how much the liberals here hate economists until one of them disagrees with Romney.

Also, have you read the article? He's not saying that his study is contraindicative of Romney's plan, merely that it doesn't necessarily support it.
