...leading some observers to suggest an alien presence

One does not simply suggest an alien presence.

/Let's just get that out of the way right off the bat, shall we?

WTF. These have already been explained. The cloud-like one is the sky crane crashing in the distance.

The dots are simply dead pixels...they appear in the same place in every photo taken by that camera. Applying Photoshop filters does not reveal new data--they create bogus data.

Pixels are inanimate objects. They don't just decide to commit suicide; someone must have killed them. And it's fairly obvious who killed them: Martians.

QED, biatches.

They have to be carefully analyzed to make sure a big cat doesn't get out of the bag. You can see by these images what happens when they aren't vigilant, can't you? They have to spin it with this "dead pixel" and "space dust" BS.

Have you seen the roaming charges for sending multimedia messages not from another country, but from another planet?

2012-08-23 03:21:43 PM
It's not impossible they are, you know, meteorites entering the atmosphere--they're easier to see in the thin, unpolluted Martian atmosphere than in our own.

The Martian landscape: But what is that hovering over the background? Dots appear to float in the sky, leading some observers to suggest an alien presence

Dots hovering in one place? Couldn't be STARS, could they? Nah. Aliens.

2012-08-23 03:25:36 PM
The picture with the few black specks in the sky: sure, dead pixels. See them all the time.

The picture with the "rising object": willing to believe for now that it's the impact plume of the heat shield.

The "video" of the white speck moving across the screen above the horizon: WTF is that?

2012-08-23 03:26:13 PM
Reading that gave me a good laugh. It's always funny to have such a small speck be someone's proof.

2012-08-23 03:26:30 PM
How do we know they're not actually pixel-sized UFOs? When they talk about little green men, they really mean little green men...

I though the issue about the dust cloud was settled weeks ago, when it was revealed that it was the plume of dust caused by the rocket cradle that crashed there. And the dead pixels perhaps could have been specs of dust, but to make the jump to UFOs, that's just wrong. But then I saw I had unwittingly accessed the Daily Fail and it all made sense.

That's where you're wrong. This obviously proves these are fakes and we need to see the long-form rover film.

Well, it comes down to NASA not being able to send that much data back to earth at the moment. Also the cancellation of the Mars Telecommunications Orbiter factors in. Here is a excellent article about communications between earth and mars as they are now.

2012-08-23 03:31:35 PM

Lens flare, internal reflection, photo processing error, meteor, dusk speck... it could be any of a dozen things. We don't know which one it is, therefore OMG ALIENS.

It clearly states in the FARQ that this is akin to discussing bans in terms of no-no levels. They pay good money to have us see their shiate, and you shall not complain.

I'd say that we got something this time.
