...a list of Akin votes that took more than two minutes to recite.

I am liking this lady's style.

Go get him, Claire.

Beat him over the nose with a rolled up copy of his own crappy votes until he goes away.

quatchi: Beat him over the nose with a rolled up copy of his own crappy votes until he goes away.

Can we do that with Romney and Ryan....

..oh wait, we aren't allowed to talk about their record, they might cry.

Well, why should she mention the rape victims were really asking for it issue? By trying to spin or massage it into something not digusting, the republicans are keeping it alive for her. Let them spend their time on that.

...a list of Akin votes that took more than two minutes to recite.

Her schedule is a bit crowded.

It's a very smart strategy. She gets to look like she's focusing on the issues, plus every time she doesn't bring up Akin's rape comments, the news report will mention that she didn't bring up Akin's rape comments, reminding everybody about Akin's rape comments.

And anyway, it's not like there's anybody out there who doesn't already know about Akin's rape comments.

Akin made rape comments? Well rape me in the rape rape, that's just raping stupid on Todd "Rape" Akin's (R-ape) part.

So, what's the over/under on how long it will take Akin to get past this whole "legitimate rape" thing? Because I gotta say - in my experience, the voting populace has the hindsight of a muthafarking GNAT. Let's hope her people are smart enough to shadow-play this in the press for months while they keep her above it all.

But the Dems always seem to disappoint me.

This also discourages the "I support the troops. I have 5 yellow ribbons on my car!" types. AKA, Akin's "base."

What is with you and Akin's rape comments? Akin makes one rape comment and suddenly it's like "Hey, did you hear about Akin's rape comments?" It's like you've never heard of someone named Akin making rape comments before. How about we follow McCaskill's lead and just move on from Akin's rape comments and talk about something not involving Akin's rape comments?

I donated to her campaign.

On an unrelated note, does anybody else have ads with Rocco Siffredi pointing at them and asking if you are still cold calling? What the Fork?

GOP - we only need to support our troops in the field, once they home they need to grab them bootstraps and take care of themselves.

If she hops on the rape train, she looks like another mean ol' lib, piling on a decent-hearted American who already apologized for upsetting the Vaginated-Americans so what's with you libs, anyway?

If she sticks to everything else, she prevents him from getting a foothold anywhere. Considering his options are basically "run right" and "turn hard starboard and push the pedal through the floor", he's already got very few options for footholds. Attacking his support of the troops cuts off that much more area for him to find a soft landing.

// is Howard Dean back in charge of the DNC?
// how are they suddenly so competent again?

My 20 year old cousin was effing livid about it, and she admittedly doesn't follow politics that closely (she voted for the governor race here 2 years ago).

This is something, honestly, that most reasonable women in MO or not won't forget for awhile. And we're in the home stretch really.

The reason she isn't mentioning the rape thing is because her constituents believe it. She's going to shy away from abortion, period, and stick with the "This guy hates the troops" line because that is what will resonate with the voters. He is going to show off all his yellow ribbons and American flag lapel pins, and stick with the "This lady will make you gay marry abort on alternate Tuesdays" line.

And he will win, because people in Missouri are morons.

Smart strategy, the Rapepublicans will still need quite some time to put out the rape flames caused by these legitimate rape versus illegitimate rape rape accusations. Though I don't rape really think McCaskill has it in the rape bag just yet, his base knows what rape he stands for and probably isn't all that rape fazed by such rape statements. Therefore rape it's rather rape smart rape to focus rape rape on rape rape rape veterans.

There has never been such a time in American politics. In 1804, barely a decade after the ratification of the Constitution, the Vice-President of the United States shot and killed a former Treasury Secretary, hero of the revolution, and former congressman in a duel. Hamilton was convinced that if Burr was elected president, it would lead to the destruction of the union, and was convinced that as a legislator, Burr served corporate interests over the interests of his constituents.

That golden age people think we should go back to is a myth. It never existed. American politics has always been a filthy, brutal business.

I can't help but feel slightly bad for Todd Akin being so associated with his rape comments that from now on whenever someone googles "Todd Akin", google is going to suggest "Todd Akin Rape" - whether he likes it or not, even if he tells them to stop.

Like when Adams called Jefferson a whoremaster and Jefferson responded that Adams was a poncey crossdresser? Well, OK - that was a presidential race. Things get out of hand.

How about when Charles Sumner got his ass beat on the Senate floor by Preston Brooks?

How about the famous Aaron Burr/Alexander Hamilton debate at dawn, with pistols?

How about that time most elected officials believed as a matter of science (or "religio-science", like Akin's degree) that women and blacks were intellectually and culturally inferior?

// like the "Leave it to Beaver" 50s, that never happened

If we keep calling Todd Akin the Rape Candidate, I'm concerned that people not following the news closely enough might mistakenly think that he actually raped someone.

And we can't have people forming mistaken beliefs based on news stories they were only half listening to while trying to juggle making breakfast for the kids & getting them ready for school while stopping the kids from fighting with each other...
