Under the new policy, women undergraduates will be excluded from a broad range of studies in some of the country's leading institutions, including English literature, English translation, hotel management, archaeology, nuclear physics, computer science, electrical engineering, industrial engineering and business management.

That cuts deep

I know two republican woman. Neither are going to vote republican this year. I don't know if they hate themselves, but they sure hate what they've been hearing lately.

Too bad we have a political party that can be compared to Iranian government at all.

yea, other than the few idiotic remarks you get from the co opted right, I'm not really sure where this GOP womens discrimination perspective thing comes from. Abortion? If your a pro-choice woman I can see where that would feel a bit opressive, but the pro-lifers I know just think it's wrong to sanction the death of a fetus, men and women. I know plenty of successful conservative women, and they are by no means push overs for their men.

Telling women they should feel blessed to have a rape baby
Telling women that only sluts use birth control
Telling women that they shouldn't expect to be paid the same as a man for the same job
Telling women that the only "legitimate" rape is "forced rape, and if it wasn't forced they are probably lying or misinterpreting something
Telling women that it shouldn't be a crime for a husband to rape his wife
Insulting women by claiming to know more about their bodies than they do

Yeah, I have no idea why women would feel upset.

I'm surprised that there aren't any men in power in Iran that want to stand up against this. Even if the only possible view of women is that of housewives and child bearers, surely someone over there can understand that intelligent mothers raise intelligent children.

If women are 98% jobless when they come out of the university system, then you're already winning anyways.

EatTheWorld: And what about republican women? do they hate themselves?

Do a degree, yes. But mainly Republicans are masters of getting people to vote against their own interests. They're very good at convincing people that what they need to fear are blacks, Hispanics, feminists, gays, non-Christians etc.  People get so distracted by these red herrings that they forget to worry about things like the economy.

dave2198: Telling women they should feel blessed to have a rape baby - Religious thing
Telling women that only sluts use birth control - Religious thing(Catholics, actually, and there are a ton of Democratic Catholics in the Northeast and Southwest)
Telling women that they shouldn't expect to be paid the same as a man for the same job - ????? Source
Telling women that the only "legitimate" rape is "forced rape, and if it wasn't forced they are probably lying or misinterpreting something - That guy is being exorcized from the party
Telling women that it shouldn't be a crime for a husband to rape his wife - ????? Source
Insulting women by claiming to know more about their bodies than they do - Err, that's not the argument. The argument against abortion disregards that part of the argument entirely.

Yeah, I have no idea why women would feel upset.

Women have a valid argument against the official Republican stance against abortion(that it is the murder of a human lifeform), but your bullshiat is mostly just bullshiat.

On subjects related to the rights of women there is a great deal of overlap when comparing the government of Iran and the current Republican Party's most influential leaders. So I agree subby, but it doesn't explain why they are both so proud of this fact.

Telling women that they shouldn't expect to be paid the same as a man for the same job who are these people discriminating against women, and why are they allowed to get away with it by other women? sounds like more coopted GOP to me
Telling women that the only "legitimate" rape is "forced rape, and if it wasn't forced they are probably lying or misinterpreting something if the voters listen to that shiat and still vote/support these marble mouths then maybe women should vote more
Telling women that it shouldn't be a crime for a husband to rape his wife co opted right wing nuts

This is not news. The Iranian Government and Republicans share many, many views.

- Gays rights are not tolerated
- Women who are raped deserved it
- Women who have extra-marital sex are whores
- Religion is the basis for law
- I go to war for my God
- I don't actually bother reading what my God is telling me to do

its hard to refute that. The nanny state didn't happen until women could vote. So tell me where he is wrong? I'm not saying women shouldn't vote, but to say they didn't change policy is just... Akin.

The problem is not that the majority say those things (they don't), but all too often the majority don't speak up to deny those things. This past spring in Congress, when they were having those committee meetings, talking about women's health issues, birth control, etc., not one woman was included on that committee. The tone-deafness of republicans is astonishing.

Why are you going to vote for a Presidential ticket with a VP who believes many of these things?

ok.. first democrats don't do any denouncing of their own for what they say. They circle the wagons. Joe Biden can imply republicans want to enslave blacks or any americans, and it goes with no challenge. SuperPAC ad says Romney caused someone to die by closing a steel plant, doesn't get denounced at all. Quite the opposite.

Damn near every republican with any stature in that state or nationally pleaded for Akin to step down. So what are you talking about?

now as far as inclusion of women to the committee hearing, I agree there should have been women there. But I also don't know the circumstances for what you are talking about either. Was it the only meeting? Was it only elected officials? I dunno. So whatever.

First , they don't think that nobody will notice. They expect it to be greeted with cheers. In many circles, they are correct.

Also, they have not become 'the very terrorists that they scream about fearing'. They are waaaaay different; They have a slightly different book that they base their terrorism on.
Its all the same terrorism to be sure, but its got to be the right BRAND of terrorism, don't you know. Can't have -foreign- terrorism, that would be losing our own unique cultural traditions of inhumanity to our fellow man that the GOP works so hard to preserve.

You haven't read the drafts of the Republican party planks have you? This is what the party is putting forward as their position.

And yes, the Democrats do have more to worry about. A major political party has detached itself from reality and we're finding that at least in the polls that call people with landline phones, those who used to identify with that party are having difficulty separting from the crazy. Just like in a bad marraige, the other side isn't going to get better if you love them hard enough.
