Long live the new flesh.

Universal have announced that Videodrome, David Cronenberg's 1983 body horror classic is getting a do-over and has nabbed a director in the form of Adam Berg. Berg is best known for his work on commercials and short films but will be making his big screen debut with the remake.

A script has already been written by Ehren Kruger, scribe of The Ring, Scream 3 and the Transformers sequels.

So, basically the Videodrome remake is being made by exactly the kind of people the original was trying to warn us about.

You'll forgive me if I don't stay around to watch. I just can't cope with the freaky stuff.

It's their money to waste.

It's my decision to let them know I feel they're wasting it by not viewing it.

Rhetorical question: is there any film that WON'T be remade (in name or in content) over the course of the next 30 years? Also, what will they be able to remake after they remake all the films of the past over the course of the next 30 years? Where are the some-value-of-original films that will be remade after this remake frenzy is sated? Will they just remake the remake of the remake of the remake of the remake?

The "Blu-Raydrome" line was kind of lame in the article. It's even worse as a headline.

How do you 'remake' a movie so outside the norm?

Just steal the premise and make a NEW movie.

I love Videodrome, but it is something that could be re-made/updated for today's times. That said, I have zero faith in the project.

The battle for the mind of North America will be fought in the Internet arena: the Cyberdrome. The computer screen is the retina of the mind's eye. Therefore, the computer screen is part of the physical structure of the brain. Therefore, whatever appears on the computer screen emerges as raw experience for those who watch it. Therefore, the Internet is reality, and reality is less than the Internet.

The new shiatty version will only reinforce how awesome the original is. The grimy low-fi 80's esthetic is exactly what makes it work so well in the first place.

2012-08-23 12:37:27 PM
What do you think? Is it worth remaking?

No, for the last farking time: COME UP WITH SOMETHING NEW!!! At this point, I don't CARE which movies "need an update". No matter how much I might agree with you, the simple point is that you farking lazy ass farktards are remaking/rebooting so much shiat nowadys, NOBODY likes it. The worst is when you try and remake a movie that DIDN'T need it, because it fit into a niche when it came out that doesn't exist anymore. Footloose and Red Dawn are two examples. Without the whole Russia/Cuba thing, the premise of attackers getting in unseen falls apart, not to mention the increase in or surveillance tech. Add to that the fact that the Cold Wart is over, and 'The Russkies are comin' isn't such a battle cry anymore. As for Footloose, even though dancing is technically illegal in St George Utah still, the rest of the country has grown up , and a movie about sticking it to the man by dancing isn't fresh and catchy. And then to mess with things considered 'classics' in one way or another, I guess next you're gonna tell me that they're going to remake The Day the Earth Stood Still, but with Keaneu Reeves?

Yeah, it worked pretty well when Cronenberg remade it 13 years ago...

The new ending will have the protagonist (Shia LaBoeuf) and his love interest (Miley Cyrus) blowing up a building and riding off into the sunset on a motorcycle.

(If any of that comes true, I want partial writing credit.)

Eventually, all movies will be reboots. The artistic message will be in how each version differentiates itself from the others. There will be no original IP, only the same single movie, remade endlessly. It's the "Hollywood Singularity" and it's coming...

/let's see how close I come over the next few decades!

Videodrome is one freaky movie..And I love it..My guess is that it's going to be a disastrous re-make with
all the crap hallmarks of modern film. Red filtered out so everything is grey/green, over doing the "gritty" look,
funky camera angles and overly perfect looking effects poorly contrasted to the gritty. Let's not forget that
NO ONE can play a sweaty, nervous, creepy dude like James Woods..No one.. He owns that.

Crispin Glover would work... but I'm picturing Michael Shannon in the lead... and Anne Hathaway in the Debbie Harry role... she already has the leather bodysuit for it.

You know, every time I see "Anne Hathaway", my brain transcribes it as "Miss Hathaway", so I now have this image of Nancy Kulp grinding a lit cigarette into her naked breast, while talking breathlessly about how pain and pleasure are the same thing.

I'm not sure whether to thank you or not for that, it could go either way.
