Subby, the trick is to take the pen and tap if deftly, twice, against the tip of your tongue. Then flick away the extra moisture from the pen's tip with your thumb using a motion similar to that you'd employ to toss a coin. Then, with the pen clutched firmly in your right hand, tap it just once against the surface where you are preparing to sign your check, incline your head approximately 15 degrees to the left, allow the tip of your tongue to just barely make an appearance at the corner of your mouth, and sign the check in one continuous motion. Do not lift the pen from the paper's surface until you are finished.

Now, I tell you all this with the understanding that you are not one of the miserable sacks of excrement who takes a full cart through a supermarket checkout line, waits there while all your items are scanned and bagged by the clerk, and only after hearing that total begins to paw through your purse looking for your checkbook and pen. If you are one of those miserable sacks of excrement, forget everything I just told you and instead take the pen, tap it twice on the tip of your tongue, and drive it cap-deep into your right eye.

Oh great, yesterday was all facebook people saying FAKE / TRACE. Now today it will be you mother farkers.

Before the arguement starts I'm just going to say yes it is quite possible to re-create the original image by eye.
Just because YOU can't do such work by eye, doesn't mean others can't.

//used to do recreations like this before I moved into traditional painting and more abstract work

Bic ballpoint is a interesting choice to use for pieces that he's investing that much time in. If you're using cheap ink the colors, especially reds, aren't going to be very lightfast. Why not spend the money to get something that's going to hold up over time better?

2012-08-23 09:54:56 AM
Subby, after you're done talking about getting a pen to work while signing a check, I'll start in about how I can't get a camera to take paictures that look like those drawings. Most of the time it's the stupid delay between the time I hit the damn button and the time the stupid flash goes off and the picture snaps. I went to take a picture of my 2 year old and he eventually moved because he had to go to college. I just want my disc camera back.

That is some really, really terrific work.

Two things:
1. Was I the only one that immediately heard Sterling Archer's voice upon seeing the Margay Cat? Yes I know he had an ocelot, but they look so similar.

2. The girl with the pearl earring is a recreation of Scarlett Johanssen's image from The Girl With The Pearl Earring rather than the Vermeer original.

Impressive.

That redhead photo has been post here on Fark before (the actual photo not this artwork).

You shouldn't use ball point pens to write checks because it's easy to wash it off. Use something with actual ink that will stain the paper fibers.

I have to write about 4 or 5 checks per year because my city charges a ridiculous fee to use a credit card for any city related payments. That's literally the only time I ever have to write a check any more.

He mentions that he uses cross hatches of overlapping color to get the blend effect. Not unlike like how an inkjet printer works.

I am so glad to know that other people feel about these idiots the same way I do. My GF thinks I am a asshole for getting upset with them. I am an assshole, but I am right in my feelings about people like this at the checkout.

You can spot an apartment or condo dweller. Maybe still living with mom and dad? When you own a home and have a lawn person, landscape service, tree removal or girl scout cookie sales, etc. they don't carry around "Square" as yet to take credit cards. Yes, I write very few but I have to keep some for those people. When you get outside of big metro areas, especially in the Midwest, you will find more checks being used. Just want to let you know about life elsewhere in the USA.

Simple.... Find a photograph, open it in Photoshop, adjust it, then pass it off as a drawing with ink pens.

I had an ex that was near this good at drawing with pens, but it wasn't till like a week before we broke up that I realized all the artwork in her place was actually done by her. I even thought some were photographs.

So, does bic make white pens too or for things like the wiskars does he just have to plan really far ahead and not make any marks there for the white paper to show through?

I'm also wondering how big these things are since there doesn't seem to be much for individual pen lines.

What's this "check" thing? Never had those here in Sweden. Doing my payments directly from my bank account. Still miffed by the fact that the money transfers during the night, but the notice of payment lags about 3-5 days. The data is entered digitally, the money transfers digitally, but the data somehow has to travel by pony express, or something like that.

I live in the Midwest currently, own a home, and pay all my bills without a check. I keep a small amount of cash on hand and do my own yardwork. Just wanted to let you know about life outside of your bubble.

If you're using a point and shoot made in the last 5 years, do this:

(1) turn off flash, especially indoors. Turn on room lights if needed, otherwise, be near a window for light
(2) prefocus by gentling pressing halfway and then getting everything looking right
(3) press all the way when you want the magic moment recorded
(4) learn to anticipate. If you say your kids name, they will glance at you before realizing that you're not handing them something delicious or fun, then they will go back to what they are doing. Be ready with steps 1-2 before you say the name, and start pressing when they start to glance

If 1-4 doesn't work, get a DSLR or fancy mirrorless with nearly zero delay. But 1-4 will work unless your camera truly sucks. Even with my sister's $150 pocket nikon I've gotten perfect shots of kids
