hugram: Are you not better off today than you were four years ago? If not, can you explain why?
NateGrey: You arent one of those right?
Lost Thought 00: Therefore nothing will change for you under the ACA. So why are you afraid of it?
cman: You shouldnt blame Obama for the state of the economy.I can understand why you do it; he did run on a platform to fix it. Plus, he can be an easy scapegoat, too.The real world does not work that way. The President is like the windshield of a car while we the consumers are the engine. The economy is just too damned complex for the President to have a hand in fixing. There are a billion of pieces that make our economy go, and the President is only one out of a billion of those pieces/Remember the source, a man who dislikes Obama very much
The Stealth Hippopotamus: hugram: Are you not better off today than you were four years ago? If not, can you explain why?Economy specking I'm doing better than I was 4 years ago. But during the down turn 2 years ago I fired a lot of people. So I'm making more money then I did before but I'm working more hours so that's not helping socially.
tfresh: I mean let's be honest, health care was going to move into electronic format anyways. Obama is just speeding things up
hugram: Ok, so you are better off financially now but not socially because you are working too many hours. Maybe you could re-hire some of those people you fired (or hire someone new) since it sounds like your business has enough demand now. That would be the way to fix your lack of social problem...

Maybe you could re-hire some of those people you fired (or hire someone new) since it sounds like your business has enough demand now. That would be the way to fix your lack of social problem...I would but here is the problem. You tax income not wealth. Confused? Let me explain. I'm not a millionaire and I'm sure as shiat not a billionaire but I'm well about the 250k mark. I've got a target on my back the size of Texas and I'm feeling a little nervous about it. So right now I'm banking every dollar I can get. Making hay while the sun shines if you will. Get it, keep it. So if Obama does win and sets about raising taxes I'll have a nice little nest egg. I've been doing it for 2 years I can handle a few more months.
hugram: Good business owners don't make decisions on whether to hire or not based on what they pay on taxes. If your business can make more money by hiring someone new, or if your business can actually lose sales by not having enough people to help your customers, you would be dumb not to hire someone.
hugram: In your case, I'm not sure if your business has enough demand to hire someone or not, from a revenue point of view. You have not made that clear yet. It does sound like you could benefit from a new hire to alleviate some of your time. Besides, an employee is treated as an expense, thus you can use his/her income to reduce your taxable income.
hugram: To make it clear... I'm not saying you should hire someone to reduce your taxes if that person will not help you increase your revenues. You should only hire someone if they will add value to your company.
quatchi: Damn, right it is.Supply side doesn't work, capitulating to lobbyists on the behalf of the 1% and multinational corporations is how America got into it's current mess and it's not how to get out of it.Of course you shouldn't discount the social issues completely. Not when the GOP have ratcheted up the culture wars to a point we haven't seen since before R v. W was decided. /Also, a sense of perspective on America's relative strength versus other western industrialized countries who are going through tougher times replete with austerity budgets might come in handy here.
