It is a pretty bridge, if you are going to jump, make it scenic and from nice surroundings

Seems more like a location issue.

That's what I was thinking. I don't see how time was a factor in her survival.

I live here!

But yes, the side she jumped from is maybe about twenty or thirty feet off the water and lands in a marshy part of the Cooper River. It's a good hike to get to the top (about two miles) so she probably made it up the on-ramp pedestrian side and then jumped into the squishy part.

Indeed. I was expecting that she'd landed on a passing barge full of old mattresses or something.

try again, but then quit because there's no use being a damn fool about it.

also, never been a fan of the jumper suicide. i prefer my suicides be more secretive (solo-occupant single car crashes, accidental drowning, etc). better for the family and friends left behind. better for insurance purposes, though i've heard some insurance companies are paying out life insurance in the case of suicide if the policy has been held for 2+ years.

Seems like it's harder than we thought to break up with Tom Cruise.

Wait... does that mean that Katie Holmes is a zombie? Or a Vampire?

Yep 2 year cooling off period for suicide clause. I personally like the Japanese indoor smoldering hibachi parties. Its like a group outing to the next life. Also convenient solution to several missing person reports at the same time. Saves fuel for the coroners office too.

I'm thinking "accidental" heroin overdose. If I get to the point where I need to check out early, it might was well be enjoyable...

Her timing was off? Seriously? Your brain said that her timing was off? I'd get that thing looked at.

years ago, when I worked in a busy ER, we saw failed attempts all them time..."gestures" as many called them. We sat down an wrote an informative brochure: "Suicice: Get It Right the First Time" detialing specifics to help them shuffle off their mortal coil in a respectable manner (and keep them out of our ER) such as appropriate dosing of pills, barrel placement with guns, and bridge height for jumpers. I remember someone including the note that jumping off an overpass is just "rude and inconsiderate to the local commuters."

By 'timing' subby means the water would have been frozen if she waited for winter.

Hmm. I guess in your case, early retirement would not necessarily be a good thing...

I live here (there?) and we've had at least 10 attempts since its opening in 2005.

FTA: Charleston police said they got a call about 4 a.m. that a man saw somebody climbing over a guard rail near the first diamond on the Charleston side. The bridge is not as high there as it closer to the middle.

Handy hint for next time, lady, courtesy of the Charleston Post and Courier.

Maybe she needed more time for the whole 32 fps thing to accumulate?

I've looked into it and killing yourself with pills and it is much more difficult to get that right than one might think. Unnecessarily difficult if you ask me. If it was just easier to get access to a simple lethal dose of pills that you wont vomit right back up maybe less people would have to jump off things.

Maybe the time is referring to high tide vs. low tide? Maybe she'd have splatted on dry land if it was low tide?
