"Szabo said he believed sheriffs are given enormous authority under his interpretation of the Constitution. When pressed about what he would do if a prosecutor declined to charge a doctor he arrested, he said the answer was simple.

"If they choose not to do their duty and uphold the Constitution," Szabo said, "they can be brought up on charges before what's called a citizen's grand jury, which is something that's not that common in the United States. But again, it is something based in common law that's within the purview of the county sheriff."

So, what's a sovereign citizen doing trying to work for "the law"? I thought they hated those guys.

Standard Republican policy: prove government is bad by breaking it themselves.

Why do I feel like Republicans are planning for a civil war?

Because they have the NRA on their side, and think that Democrats don't own guns.

Well, there is that crazy ass judge in TX who claims he'll personally stand in front of his podunk town to stop the pending UN invasion force.

Holy shiat. This sick bastard just said he'd commit premeditated, 1st degree murder of a physician for performing a legal medical procedure and committing NO CRIME.

What the fark is wrong with this country?

Seriously, America. What the fark is wrong with you?

The root cause seems to be Christianity.

Wow. What voter could resist such a compelling argument. Because it's not burglars and rapists that are a threat to law and order, it's doctors performing abortions.

He clarified it did not apply to cases in which the mother's life was in danger. "That's a medical decision. That's out of the area I'm talking about," he said.

Well, then never mind. Perfectly sane and rational. Carry on, sir!

Republicans have become the classic example of those morons who resort to threats of violence simply because they are just too rock-sucking stupid to solve their problems like normal, adult human beings.

They're bullies. The only problem is that, since they are so outmatched in every aspect of their lives and lack the intellectual wherewithal to better their situations, everyone is laughing at them. And, what happens when people laugh at bullies?

They get angry.

Then they get really funny.

And dangerous.

But mostly really funny.

most of the people I know with huge caches of guns are Republicans. Most of the people I know who I'd trust to know which end of gun to point at the bad guys in a crisis? almost to a person, democrats (including the Vietnam vets and Navy SEALs I know personally)

They tend to only really recognize the county as the highest level of government and the sheriff as the highest legal authority.

I'm not saying that Christianity as a whole, but the root of what these people are doing is out of Christianity. That's the core of all of these problems. And the Prosperity Gospel had to come from somewhere.

The Prosperity Gospel can be accurately described as Theological Objectivism.

"Szabo said he doesn't have any background in law enforcement, but he said his business background gives him the experience to run for the position of sheriff."

Gee, who else is running on the strength of his business background?

"Szabo maintains that the county sheriff is a position that doesn't answer to any other public official."

So does Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

"Republican House Speaker Bill O'Brien called on Szabo to quit the race in light of his statements."

It does my heart good to see Republican leaders having to smack down their craziest candidates every other day.

It did. It was blended with objectivism. It was the only way to absorb Ayn Rand's atheism.

RTFA.

In an interview on Wednesday with local television station WMUR, Szabo said he believed sheriffs were granted special powers under the Constitution. That means, he said, he would be empowered to arrest or even use deadly force against doctors for providing legal abortions for women.

English, muthufarker, do you speak it?

They don't need to do that. They just pull you over and drop dope behind your seat.

impaler: Where did he say he would use lethal force?

The original interview that is linked in the TFA:

But Szabo may have inflamed the issue further when asked if he would use deadly force to prevent an abortion.

"I would respond specifically by saying that if someone is under threat, a full-grown human being, if they're under threat, what should the sheriff do? Everything in their power to prevent them from being harmed," he said.

I wish it had a verbatim quote of the actual question asked, but it seems pretty clear he would definitely not rule it out.

That's far from "would kill doctors who perform abortions." No reason to exaggerate on this issue.

...no, I'm pretty sure Christianity is just another symptom of the common cause underlying cognitive defects. I think it's some basic confusion about the relationship of language and reality.

Do you know how links work? Like the one from the 2nd paragraph of the article. It's got a video of him speaking:

starting around 0:30
Interviewer: You would do whatever it took to stop that from happening.
Idiot: Absolutely
Interviewer: Deadly force?
Idiot: Well, I would hope that it wouldn't come to that as with any situation where someone is in danger but again specifically talking about elective abortions and late term abortions that is an act that needs to be stopped.

Okay, we have two quotes that are directly opposed to each other. Pray tell, under what circumstances would a "full grown human being" be under threat by a doctor performing an abortion. He specificly said he would "he would be empowered to arrest or even use deadly force against doctors for providing legal abortions for women." Not for threatening women. Not for threatening the lives of "full grown human beings". For performing abortions. The exerpt you quote in no way negates or nullifies the assertion of the exerpt I quoted. They are literally about two completely different subjects.

That means it could come to that. He just hopes it won't. There is no rational way to read that other than yes, I would kill a doctor to stop an elective abortion if I had to. That is exactly what he is saying. Don't whitewash it. He really is saying that.
