The recession ended in 2009. What are you talking about subby?

2012-08-23 12:16:47 AM
What if that number shrank because more of those people no longer have a job at all? Just sayin...

2012-08-23 12:19:20 AM
That's because more and more Americans are unemployed thanks to Oblahma.

2012-08-23 12:20:13 AM
Bears repeating, but yeah....can't live within your income if you're unemployed. I have a stable job but I'm paycheck to paycheck (mainly because it IS a stable job, but I digress).

This question was raised many many times in the comments on the site.

But if you read, it says CareerBuilder polled workers.

Critical reading skills is diminishing, I blame Obama for that too. (am i doing it right?)

Your statement and the headline are not mutually exclusive.

i am waiting for the paycheck two paydays after the payday before last payday.

Due mostly to the rise in certainty from a 2010 GOP sweep of the House.

2012-08-23 12:22:36 AM
Wonder how many of those people no longer live paycheck to paycheck because they have adjusted to a lower standard of living.

The poll asked employees, so people with jobs.

Why do you think they would ask the unemployed if their paychecks have increased?

We already know unemployment is high and underemployment is high.

Eagerly awaiting my chance to join this group of people. Maybe if corporate financial America remembers what a "raise" is.

As with most American's who are struggling to get by, I'm sure it's not because they spend their money unwisely...like...say, a Fark membership, or a 90/month cell phone bill, and an 80/month cable bill, and eating out every day. But hey, fark it, I bet we can get the gov't to pay to pay for that too

2012-08-23 12:24:36 AM
But Obama's still black, isn't he?

2012-08-23 12:24:53 AM

Alonjar: Wonder how many of those people no longer live paycheck to paycheck because they have adjusted to a lower standard of living.

Or at least finally figured out their $300/mo. cable bill didn't reconcile well with their $1500/mo. income.

2012-08-23 12:25:09 AM
So the economy improving under Obama is bad for Obama? I'm sure all of those people finally able to breathe a little bit easier now that the bills are paid with a little bit leftover are just ecstatic about Romney's plan for a $2,000 tax hike on the middle class so that the one percenters can splurge on those 100' yachts or Gulfstream Vs they've been holding off on.

2012-08-23 12:25:19 AM
I thought CareerBuilders went outta business? Even if they didn't, when the fark did they become experts on anything other than running a shiatty job site???

2012-08-23 12:26:29 AM

GoldSpider: What if that number shrank because more of those people no longer have a job at all? Just sayin...

The real unemployment rate is actually around 14.5% and if you thrown the number of people who were forced to take much lower paying jobs and aren't employed in their career field the rate is actually more like 18%. All these are pretty standard numbers even in good times (the real number always being higher), but the fact that the base number is so stubbornly high should worry Obama.

Should, but then likely doesn't. This is a man who hired an Energy Secretary who doesn't even own a car by his own admission.

2012-08-23 12:27:34 AM
This is an interesting metric considering how mediocre the standard economic indicators are these days.

This list of business failures collects significant companies who met the eventual demise of their well-known brand. The causes include corporate crime and simple insolvency, and are notable for their financial impact on the economy.

FFS, how many times must I say this?

The President isnt this omnipotent being who creates jobs by willing them into existence. To put blame on the office of the President for when the economy is bad is an unfair attack. We, the consumers, are responsible for the health of the economy.

The reverse is also true; when times are good, it also has nothing to do with the President.

It is excellent that those living paycheck-to-paycheck are doing better, but we are not quite out of the woods yet.

Woohoo! The company I worked at is in there! Of course, I was laid off in 2003, and in my division it was one of those "you people go in that conference room, the rest of you go over there" and you knew it was bad, and you started sizing up those around you and tried to guess if you were in the "canned" group. Surprise! EVERYONE IN THE DIVISION GOT CANNED!

That was my first FARK experience, getting into an argument with somebody on FARK over the Iraq War and he threatened to "out" me to my company IT via some IP tracing witchery. HAHAHA GOOD LUCK I'M BEHIND A FRENCH DOMAIN I'm sure "Pierre" over in corporate IT in Paris or where ever will give a merde.

//Before you ask, yes this account is newer than that; no I'm not using an alt, I lost my original username and password and my interest in FARK for about 5 years somewhere in the middle

I'd just be happy if my earnings were even trying to pace with the increased costs of fuel (and everything fuel prices impact), insurance, etc. I'm not broke, but my dollar is basically a limp noodle compared to what it used to be. Every time I go to the grocery store I get pissed off at how little $100 buys vs. what it did in the late 90s, when I began earning a similar income as I currently make. And don't tell me to finish graduate school; I don't have the time or the money. Besides, I'd probably just end up making what I make now, only with more prestige and bragging rights.

American Dream, my ass.

There's a lot of bad news headed Obama's way. Hope he kept up on his community organizer network - he's gonna need a job soon. Or he could just write a bunch of made up books - there's plenty of suckers out there who'll buy them.

The "real" unemployment rate? You mean U6?

U3 is the standard unemployment rate.

U6 is pretty much just U3*1.74. They say the same thing, but they're different scales.

Why would you deliberately chose the scale that is 1.74 times higher than the standard? Other than deception?

Housing market is recovering, less people are living paycheck to paycheck, the auto market is bouncing back, and the stock market is up. Other than the dollar still being a bit weak, I'd say it's doing well. I've already made as much this year as I did in the entirety of last year.

Just think of how well things could be going if we'd been able to move to a true single payer Medicare-for-all healthcare system and if we hadn't wasted all of that time on the senseless debt ceiling and budget posturing.

Let me guess...It was Romney who fired you after forcing you to build a stage at gun point just so he could look down on you as you were fired. He then gave your wife cancer and stole candy from your children...then forced you to dig your own grave as he pissed on your head and told you it was raining?!??!?

What about Romney plan to shoot anyone that owns an SUV. Sure, he hasnt come out and said that is plan, but he has to get average MPG up somehow, so I will just declare it to be his plan.
