I can understand how some parents may not comprehend the value of having an iPad for your toddlers (or perhaps "the kid" isn't worth a $600 investment), but ours has been a godsend. When my wife was pregnant with Satchel, we bought his iPad two months before he was due, and we loaded it up with apps and media for newborns. I even used it to film the delivery.

It was magical. The first thing the little guy saw coming into the world was the Apple logo, and we even convinced the maternity nurse to let him sleep with it in the nursery (we programmed a playlistism for him filled with songs shown to foster intellectual development.

Anyway, he's 16 months now and his iPad never leaves his side. He uses it to show us what he wants for dinner (we loaded a volume of organic and locally grown foods for him to choose from), what activities he wants to do (his favorite is a language app- we have him learning both Spanish and Farsi) or what media he wants (his favorite movie is "Who Killed the Electric Car" and his favorite album is "World Rythm" by the Ethiopian Folk Project.) It's just so precious seeing him interact through it.

I know he'd be devastated if it was ever stolen, which is why on Sunday mornings (his outdoor time) we don't take it with us.

Poor girl in the story, I hope hers is returned soon.

Meh, I had a tablet when I was 3. It was called Etch A Sketch and it was awesome.

Indubitably: May I be the first to say:

"Too young for an iPad?"

My 2 year old won't keep his grubby, peanut butter covered hands off of my iPad. It's shocking how quickly he adapted to the interface. He's in for a surprise when gets into school with its archaic mice and physical keyboards.
