Well, congratulations on proving that complete and total idiocy isn't confined to the right wing, I guess.

skipjack: I'm curious, which organization abducts and abuses gay children? Abduction of children is typically considered kidnapping...just an FYI.

That would be Exodus International. That's my issue with Chick-Fil-A; I wouldn't care if it was simple speech, but they actively support kidnappers, and that leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Awesome! Must have been a hell of a bonus to afford something like that. And here I am hoping that one day I'll be able to afford an M11/9.

2012-08-22 11:37:25 PM

wee: Not with that, no. There's all sorts of legal reasons for owning firearms besides hunting and self defense. Weird, I know, but true. For example, except for a few really super expensive guns, I own pretty much everything that was used in WWI, WWII, and Korea (and Viet Nam, by extension). Its kinda cool to get to play with stuff that's normally only seen in a museum. You get to learn how they work, how they operate, how to fix them, how to take care of them, what they sound like, what they smell like, etc. And in doing all that you get a teensy, tiny sense of what the guys back then experienced, first hand, up close and in action. It's like having a museum you can participate in.

I suppose it's the same with guys who like old cars or whatever. Probably just as expensive, too.

... Can I come over and play?

wee: GAT_00: Why?
How about because?
Larry and Sergey are pretty notoriously anti-gun for whatever odd reason. I was very happy to use cash money they gave me to buy one that is belt-fed and sits on a tripod.

Buying a gun because you like to think it would piss off your boss is probably the single most empathetic pro-gun argument I've heard.

For the record, I'm a huge militaria buff myself (despite being a bit of a pacifist - it's an interest I picked up through my grandfather, who served in WWII and Korea), though I don't have any guns in my collection. My pride pieces are a trench helmet and sword from the ANZACs of WWI. :)

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievance

Subby, you might want to sit down for this:

Many of us believe in freedom of association, property rights, and the right to free speech for all. So unlike you, we don't get butt hurt about these things.

But I'll let Mike Huckabee do the talking here:

"I'd love to talk to them; I'd love to ask what government authority gave them the right to censor commerce in their communities because they disagreed with someone who worked there. The CEOs of Apple Computers, Starbucks, Ben and Jerry's, Amazon all support same sex marriage, have given generously to it, but I still drink Starbucks; I use my iPhone and MacBook; I'll order things on Amazon, and I'll eat Ben and Jerry's ice cream. I'm not buying their politics; I'm buying their products, and I think people need to quit being so ridiculously fearful that somebody might have a point of view that's different than mine. I expect them to have a different one; I just expect them to treat each other with civility and a sense of respect."

Hate the gun nuts all you want, but they have been very consistent over at least the last 40 years that the 2nd Amendment applies to all Americans (and preferably to all of humanity though many are isolationists). Liberals have made it clear by their actions towards Chick Fil A that they believe that the 1st one only applies to them.

We devised Reagan.com as an alternative to the big e-mail providers so customers will know that they are subsidizing candidates or causes with which they disagree, but so they may also feel that their private messages stay that way.

"For example, Forbes reported that Yahoo co-founder Jerry Yang recently contributed $30,400 to the Democratic Senatorial Committee in 2012.

The Center for Responsive Politics' website OpenSecrets.org revealed that Yahoo! employees contributed more than $17,000 to Barack Obama's 2012 reelection campaign compared to just $2,875 for Mitt Romney.

Google employees ponied up more than $263,000 for Obama's 2012 campaign and $5,000 for Mitt Romney. In 2008, Google's political action committee, its employees and their families gave more than $800,000 to the Obama campaign. Following Obama's victory, several Google executives put up $25,000 apiece for the Obama Inaugural Committee.

Microsoft employees contributed $362,742 to the Obama reelection campaign compared to just $82,000 for Romney."

Y'know, I never understood the "FEMA camp" scaremongering. I only know FEMA as the agency that helps clean up after natural disasters and the like; what else does it do and how is that supposed to lead to death camps? Sure, I could probably solve this by Googling it, but I don't want Conspiracy Cooties near my computer, so eh. :P

//Since TFA's an ad, it's not like there's much to say regarding it.

The FEMA camp thing, amusingly enough, actually dates back to the Reagan administration. Specifically with a certain Army Colonel, working in the White House, who was tasked with coming up with an emergency plan. The plan, REX-84, was given the name of Night Train. It's pretty funny that what they're so afraid of was thought up in the Reagan White House.

Oh, and that Army Colonel's name? Ollie North.

Huh.

Link 1: they gave $1000 to exodus international. You originally claimed that CFA actively supports kidnappers. You have no evidence to back that claim.
Link 2: Based on allegations....are you aware of how the US system of laws treats heresy and conjecture?
Link 3: You citation on abuse is one where anyone in the public can edit it. If that is the strongest evidence you have....well..you're typical...

So what we have here is zero evidence of kidnapping, and zero evidence of abuse.

Why is it okay for a party to trash one amendment and hold the other on a pedestal? I'm not talking about something as braindead as Prohibition, which was added on later. I'm talking about Amendments # 1 & 2, originally put there by our forefathers. They are both equally important.
