Lana Del Ray = Attractive, stupid, and high-maintenance
Jaguar F series = Attractive, stupid, and high-maintenance

Would ride both until they broke down.

I don't see the problem here.

How would you use those mirrors, anyway?

This is one of the ugliest Jaguars I've ever seen. It actually looks like a TVR reject.

Whatever happened to the CX-16? Make that!

Thanks for letting everyone know, I guess? Never understood some people's fascination with hanging out in entertainment threads just to let everyone else know they haven't heard of a particular person.

So if you're out in public and you see someone reading a book that you haven't heard of, do you go up to that person and inform them that you have never heard of their book and you are loving every minute of it?

The same way you use the mirrors on your car, only you would look up at them.

They do look too small to be functional, though. Either they are cameras or you can just chalk it up to concept car silliness.

Meh, it's a public discussion forum. It's completely different than someone keeping to themselves reading a book.

I'm in the same boat as this guy, maybe without the "loving every minute" part. Lana Del Ray is one of those people I've only ever "Heard of." I heard of her in some capacity related to a bad SNL performance? Then I heard of her, maybe banging Axl rose or something? And that's about it.

From a personal perspective I think it's just a commentary on getting older. It's fascinating that there's these people out there who are apparently so famous and you have absolutely no idea who they are.

I agree that a public discussion forum is different. However, when the only thing you add to the discussion is that haven't heard of the person, then what is the point of joining the discussion other than trying to make yourself appear superior to the people in the discussion.

It's the "loving every minute" part of it that bothers me. That's what makes you sound like a smug asshole. I'm getting older as well and there are a lot of people I haven't heard of (I saw Lana Del Ray on SNL and never heard anything about her again), but I don't carry that as a source of pride. It just is what it is. It's not a priority for me. But if I see an article about someone I haven't heard of, I will either 1.) read the article to find out who they are if I am curious or 2.) move along.

I just don't understand the fascination with letting people know you have never heard of someone.

She is a rather plain looking woman.

2012-08-22 03:53:55 PM
I don't understand the hatred for Lana Del Ray.
Yes, she's rich. Yes, her daddy's in the business. Yes, she very intentionally manipulated her image to sell records.
And she did it very successfully with an album that's very well produced and nowhere near as awful as critics say it is. Is such manipulation cynical? Yes. Am I listening to it now? No.

But I'm also not listening to Lady Gaga or Alanis Morisette or other artists who produced mediocre crap that no one listened to then changed their image, got a label, recorded slightly better crap with much better production value and made a mint.

Why don't people hate on Gaga or Morisette or that one who's supposed to be punk the same way?

I honestly don't get it.

museamused: Why don't people hate on Gaga or Morisette or that one who's supposed to be punk the same way?

Say what you will about gaga cause quite frankly she deserves it , but she is talented as hell (and her before gaga pics aren't bad imo).

People won't judge Lana based on "her" music, but want to judge her on everything else. I actually like the song video games. Whatever. Some just want to hate her for being rich and pursuing her dreams using the means that she has. And, well others probably just don't like her style or performing. That's legit.

museamused: I honestly don't get it.

when she first broke, i read a story from some music mag that basically took issue with her marketing herself as "Lana Del Rey", and her album being characterized as her "debut album" when in fact, she apparently had been signed to a label and recorded a record under a different name. The article, to paraphrase, took issue with her first album being a piece of shiat and selling zero units, but then revamping her image and making a "new" quote unquote debut album.

Now, I don't give a shiat either way, but....I think perhaps some purists or industry folks took issue with that.

i find it a boring, bland, vapid song by a generally boring, bland, but attractive singer. ehhh. people dig that shiat. to each their own.

thecpt: Say what you will about gaga cause quite frankly she deserves it , but she is talented as hell (and her before gaga pics aren't bad imo).

she writes great pop hooks and has a phenomenal voice. her act, her shtick, is tired as hell and been done to death (bowie, alice cooper, marilyn manson, etc.) but she's got talent. if you say she sucks, you're just hating. i don't like dream theater but that doesn't mean they suck. they're talented as fark.

it must drive her crazy that Katy Perry probably moves more units despite being less talented overall. *shrug*

FTFY. I believe we're overlooking the chief reason why this anorexic AW wants to be seen next to
over-priced phallic replacements, aimed at unattached men with excess income they can't spend by themselves.

Music "purists" will get their panties in a twist over almost anything.

However, even I can't fully accept the rather cynical career transition in this case, which is so jarring and evident I can't help but think Lana and/or her handlers want it to be a talking point (you wouldn't think so, but then again they did a terrible job of "covering their tracks").

Most of all, I just find her music and weird and off-putting. There are some nice melodies in there, but the lyrics paint a bizarre picture of some sad drone who enjoys to be mistreated, and its not done in a way that I would consider "artful" or "interesting".
