Actually, in this case, the "hipster" can't be like what we usually refer to as hipsters because they can't be too cool for school. They just have to be cool enough to have a lot of friends.

How bout the Lawyer for when your Hacker gets you in trouble for patent/copyright infringement. How about the Rich Kid who will fund your startup?. How about the Idiotic Journalist who has to pick the Hipster's pubic hairs out of his teeth? How bout the Web Designer who can deliver beautiful webpages, with actual content buried far beyond the "3-click" rule? What about the Adverting Asshead who actually provides the revenue.

If Mr. Ianmoto honestly believes that a good business is 2/3rds marketing (hipster and hustler) and only 1/3rds actual production, there is no limit to what he can't do. I bet he also thinks that Zynga has a great long-term strategy.

Having a great product is of no value unless someone is able to hustle it. I speak from experience. Vendors expect a hard sell, they want the sizzle, not the steak. Offer something that is smaller, faster, cheaper and easier to use and they just yawn.
