Oh for farks sake. Just...just farking cancel Spider-Man already. Put him and his fans out of their damn misery.

Dude's in his 60's now. He probably needs a little help getting around.

Over/under on how many issues this kid lasts before being shuffled off to Marvel Limbo? Twelve seems like a natural number but perhaps a little high.

Honestly, I really am burned out on the character of SPider-Man

THe sidekick's name is Andy Macguire. He has super strength and flight. What's his alternate identity though or did I miss something?

What would someone with super strength and the ability to fly need with Spider-Man?

Is his name Poochie? *facepalms*

I thought the younger male sidekick/inappropriate relationship thing was covered by Batman?

I guess there are problems creating fresh new stories solely on Spidy. :(

Can we call in and vote to kill this annoying sidekick too?

I think my one of my favorite spiderman comics or at least just one i remember the most is one of the

What if"s where it's what is spiderman had 6 arms. Not sure why it wasn't 8 arms must have been to hard to draw.

Do they still do What if comics?

Rarely. Not since 2009, I believe. And there are no 10 appendaged arachnids. 6 arms + 2 legs = 8 appendages.

My favorite Spiderman from the last several years was the Spider Island storyline. It was actually funny and pretty well written. Just about everything else has sucked.

Doesn't have to be a window. A hard face-palm will do nicely. To be honest, I thought the same thing when they were doing that story line till I clued in on the leg thing too.

I would assume they quit doing What If comics when they realized they could put them in regular continuity, then hit the retcon whammy button.

What If: Peter Parker married Mary Jane?
What If: Peter Parker got his powers from a Spider Totem?
What if: Harry Osborn died?

Wow, hey, that sucked. They would have done better to do a year of team-ups.

/Spidey and The Thing could have sold very well, especially given a serious storyline

2012-08-22 06:21:15 PM
Marvel team-ups? this is new?

Wolverine needs a sidekick too. preferably someone of consenting age.

And silver surfer. so lame all by himself.

seriously, what if your sidekick was older and wiser than you, Just new to being superhuman? that could be interesting. or if your sidekick was someone formerly awesomer than you in every way, but now only can function in a support role because of an accident. or legal action.

Meet 16-year-old Andy Maguire - a nod to big screen Spider-Man stars Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire - a slacker from Peter Parker's old high school. Until, that is, a science experiment gone wrong grants him powers, including superstrength and flight.

No farking thank you!

I always considered Spider-man my favorite Marvel Superhero until I actually started reading his comics. Maybe I've just been reading poor samplings, so if anyone knows of any good Spider-writers, let me know. I just know that every article I read on Spiderman story arcs, people GUSHED over Spider Island, and that was...well, it wasn't good.

For all the people reading 'sidekick' and freaking out, I still think it's a stupid idea, and I haven't been keeping up with the comics at all so all my information is 3rd hand, but as I understand it, it's not a 'sidekick' kind of situation. Peter accidentally SCIENCED! something (and in fact, it was something Reed Richards had already SCIENCED! but decided mankind wasn't ready for) and either created or discovered or released this kid's powers. Kid has the potential to grow up to be an Omega level threat on par with Hulk and that sort and since it's Peter's fault and Avenger's Academy isn't set up to deal with someone this far off the scale, Richard's saddles Peter with him.

So, he's mini-super man? Just what we need, another god character. Unless he's got the lowest possible ranges of these powers, he's going to outclass Pete quickly; given equal strength (and associated physical abilities), if one can fly and one has to depend on web-cans, who wins?

Well luckily, his weakness is his super-angst, and he's too depressed to leave his house. I guess Poochie did return from Thor tossing him into the sun.

As long as its done by the original creators and not some jackass looking to make a quick buck, who are we to argue. In that world, Stan Lee is God.

What you have described is a much more reasonable scenario, as Peter Parker has always taken responsibility for his actions, such as taking full responsibility for grievous injury inflicted upon a loved one following his public revealing of his identity.

I haven't visited my local comic book shop in a while, but it's on my pull list. I'm willing to give it a chance. Just from the Scans Daily preview, it looks like something that they can just summarily forget if they want, so I'm not too worried.

Exactly. What purpose would the two even have to work together?

I guess one source of appeal of Spidey has always been the dialogue. And being a smart ass just to the people he's in the middle of fighting is played out, and the rest of his supporting cast are needy women or friends that ultimately try to kill him. So I can see the point of addng a sidekick of some sort (as much as I don't like the idea) just to keep him talking. But I fail to understand how or why they settled on this skillset for the guy.
