(Outside Online)   What are the best road trip albums? For you younger Farkers, albums were a dozen or so songs by the same artist that you listened to in order, and road trips were journeys you took in a car in the days before gas cost more than inkjet refills   (outsideonline.com) divider line 198

Thick as a Brick.

/but honestly, if it's a long road trip, an ipod on shuffle or a good long playlist of your own making would be better than a succession of CDs you'd have to change.

it's probably not for everyone, but I always put on Colin Hay's Going Somewhere.

GnR--Appetite for Destruction.

When I was twenty-one I took a trip out west and it was one of the few cassettes that I could hear over the wind from the open windows, so it got a lot of playtime. Since then, I've tried to play it during every road trip.

/Mindless tradition.

My personal favorite is the soundtrack to Where the Buffalo Roam.

I love the part about getting the hell out of Somerville, MA because I am living there now.

Maynard from Tool lived in my neighborhood and hated it also.

Queens of the Stone Age make great road music.

'Kettle Whistle' by Jane's Addiction.

'The Real Thing' by Faith No More.

Any classic Van Halen album.

Bah.

You want music to make you drive fast, you put on Flatt and Scruggs' Foggy Mountain Breakdown (Mercury Records version) and you'll drive like the cops are after you.

"The best" is kind of arbitrary. But Kottonmouth Kings "Rolling Stoned" is a pretty good one to hit the road to. It has variety and talks a lot about doing the stuff you usually do while you're on a road trip.

Dark Side is too short for a road trip, but it's a good hangover album to play while you're cleaning up solo cups full of stale beer and cigarette butts and trying not to burn a skillet full of scrambled eggs.

For long trips I'll put on The Wall, it keeps your mind off things for a lot longer.

Drove through SW Colorado / NE Arizona last year in a thunderstorm.....The Joshua Tree never sounded better.

a sky bigger than life, rain and lightning, Bono singing about floods, "we're beaten and blown by the wind, trampled in dust", love turning to rust, "the rain pourin' thru a gapin' wound', "desert sky, we need new dreams tonight"...

Classic Rock is canned. Same stuff over and over. Albums had the other tunes that were better than the Classic Rock stuff....

I like country music for road trips (real country, not Doughtry or Taylor Swift FM radio shiat), because each track on the album is different, its not 15 of the same song, and it usually tells a story.

i love the Beatles as much as the next dork, but please God don't make me listen to all of the White Album. I'll drive this imaginary car off the road.

It's not really a road trip if you can still pick up the same radio station all day.

This is Fark. Of course it's not obscure. I just finished my third read through yesterday.

How do you like Zac Brown? I haven't been able to get enough of those guys lately. And this is coming from a dude that used to be vehemently anti-country music.
