Elegy: JohnnyCanuck: Elegy: stonicus: JohnnyCanuck: Soooo....why do Daniel Tosh and his S-I-L share a surname? Am I missing something here?

She married his brother?

Congrats, JohnnyCanuck, this was one of those comments that was so stupid EVERYBODY immediately ran to post a reply without reading the rest of TFT. Derailment, achieved.

//good luck at work, if it's going anything like your Fark experience is going, you're gonna need it.

So you're saying Fark is full of pretentious, self-absorbed losers who feel the need to derail a thread for about 5 seconds of the feeling of superiority?

\you new around here? Or are you just one of the aforementioned d-bags with a 2nd newly created account 'cause you don't have the balls to post with your regular account when you snark?
\\my slashies are wrong too, right?

Hey, the majority of that snark wasn't really directed at you; it was directed at all of the people repeatedly piling on you with the same damn comments, over and over, without reading the rest of TFT - where they would easily see a plethora of the same sorts of comments.

You know, I was actually trying to be sympathetic towards you - I've spoken some show stopping stupidity in my day, and know that feeling of heat creeping up into your neck and face quite well, thanks. I'm especially prone to it when I'm hungover, so I feel your pain. Perhaps you misinterpreted my genial and (I thought) lightweight snarky amusement/sympathy, eh?

But thanks for insinuating that I'm a d-bag hiding behind an alt, I appreciate that one. I'm not, neither am I new (been lurking for a couple of years), but you know, whatever helps you sleep at night. So way to be a d-bag, bro.

Yeah, I'm completely out of the loop... really have no idea what's going on with either of these at the moment. Too much rape rape threads, I guess.

Pants full of macaroni!!: Mose: Is it now fashionable to find Tosh unfunny? Well, color me easily amused. I still find him much funnier than Dane Cook ever was.

He stopped being funny the minute he got a tv show. This is not opinion. This is fact.

/fun fact: everyone and everything reaches a point in their popularity where the backlash hits. Last week it was The Oatmeal, this week it's Tosh

Ah well. That's good to know. And here I'd have gone muddling through being entertained by an unfunny guy from time to time.

I hope Mike Birbiglia hasn't reached that zenith yet. I don't think he has a TV show, but he did make one of his albums into his movie. I suppose I need a ruling- is that his death knell?

Exactly how are THESE protesters any different from WBC protesters?
Seems to me they could easily borrow Westboro Baptist Church's signs.

They're all just a bunch of self-righteous religious assholes who think it's their right to push their religion on everyone else.

Is their moto, "You rape 'em, we scrape 'em. No fetus can beat us"?

A fellow lab-mate had a poster beside his desk for "Dr. Pickle's fun time abortion clinic. We bring out the kid in you!". For some reason he was asked to remove it.

Well, I wouldn't quite use that wording... They're of species homo sapien, certainly... They're even "alive", for all that's worth (but, so are cancer cells)...

What they are not yet is "people" with any kind of rights...

True, but it's really semantic nitpicking. An acorn is not a tree, a spore is not a mushroom, a pile of iron ore is not a battleship, etc.

I feel like the anti-abortion folks don't even realize what's involved in an abortion now-a-days. Hint: there's rarely a surgery.

Poor girl goes to the clinic, takes a pill, and has a miscarriage. Problem solved. If you didn't know about the pill, you'd just figure it was like the other 1/3 or pregnancies that end in miscarriage. And many times nobody but the woman knows. And frankly I think that's how it should be.

All this imagery of dead babies has practically nothing to do with most of the abortions performed in this country. It's just real-life trolling.

Moreover, your religious taboos have fark all to do with the law. Just because you believe that abortion is murder, doesn't mean the rest of us have to avoid it. No more than a Jew's distaste for pork means pork is illegal. Frankly there's a huge difference between what I describe above and murder, and people who use that term are either disingenuous or intellectually dishonest. More likely, I think, these folks aren't being intellectual about it, just knee jerk retarded.

I frequent a lot of blogs written by atheists, freethinkers, skeptics and liberals.

Right here is a good example of where modern feminism, particularly the "internet feminists" blog brigade has gone wrong. Women in America live better and more freely than just about any other place on the planet, in any time period of history. All the same rights as men, and overall, a pretty level playing field. Their basic political efforts are supported by a large percentage of liberal and even many conservative/libertarian freethinking men. They face no real threat to their freedom in any of the more liberal states, and even the conservative backwaters aren't as bad as most of the rest of the world has been since forever.

Yet despite this incredible freedom, almost all of them often choose to fight not the republicans and christians who would see them in chains(almost literally), but instead to constantly police and bash their fellow liberals and freethinkers who don't fall in line on every little minor social issue like they're supposed to. To some of these women, one comedian making a purposely offensive rape joke is a bigger threat, and a much more important topic, than millions of women being denied basic healthcare, birth control, or access to abortion.

I have read ten times more blog posts about the evil of rape jokes, claims that asking a woman out at a convention is sexual harrassment, claims of "not feeling safe" at conferences where no assaults have ever taken place, the absolute crushing need for anti-harrassment policies at pretty much every event ever, and other such retarded, piddling dogshiat, than I have about the very real threats to women that are pushed as good policy in parts of this country and all over much of the rest of the world.

It seems to me that most American feminists with an online presence are more concerned with gaining extra, super-equality privileges for themselves, and making sure that no man can ever ask them out, or mention them critically without risking social consequences, than they are in helping other women gain equality, independence, freedom, or safety.

My prediction- if this incident is mentioned on any of the feminist/lefty blogs, it will be used to once more take a shot at Daniel Tosh for making a rape joke, or to unfairly compare him to anti-PP pretestors, than to say anything rational about the fact that women's basic rights are being protested by anti-choice losers.

liam76: I wonder how many people who supported OWS tactics are now going to flip-flop when they don't like the message or target.

it's a possibility, but I'd be willing to bet that the vast majority of them wouldn't be cheering for police brutality and violence.

And that's because most people don't really think through their political opinions very well, therefore the political postions reflect not rational thinking, but mostly just gut feelings.

Conservatives are, by their nature, fear-filled, paranoid, violent and sometimes purely hateful and spiteful creatures. That's why they constantly, in near lockstep, cheer on war, mass-murder, modern slavery for women and racial "others", and why they worship the military and cheer on violent cops, while uniformly opposing anyone who dares to stand up for themselves against existing powers.

Liberals, by their nature, tend to actually care about other people and dislike violence, though many of them can't really say why.

So don't worry about them, they will not manage to be nearly as hypocritical and shiatty as you. It's just not their nature.

Astounding. Just proves you can lead whores to culture but you can't make them think.

What part of Margaret Sanger's insane ravings about black babies and Hitler's insane ravings about the children of Israel eluded you? The big words like ... I dunno ... "kill"?

Planned Parenthood is Murder, Inc.

PS - wow. defining a fetus as not yet human is possibly the most offensive slap to God's face I can imagine. You must actually reek of sulphur.

He was just being a bit fast and loose with language and using "human" collequially to mean "person"... Fetuses are undeniably not people until at least the third trimester (when their brains become capable of supporting consciousness, and they can theoretically survive outside the womb)... Conventionally, we as a species have considered them not people until actual birth... But, even if you wanted to get pickier about it, you couldn't go back before the third trimester; they're just unthinking parasites prior to that...

So you really think PP is some kind of conspiracy against black people and a eugenics method to breed the perfect human? News flash: women of ALL races get abortions, and I've yet to see any of it being motivated by "ethnic cleansing", "eugenics breeding", or whatever else dipshiat reasoning you like to dream up.

P.S.: millions of fertilized eggs fail to implant and thousands of embryos are miscarried WITHOUT the aid of humans. Why does God murder so many potential humans with such bloodthirsty abandon?
