It's probably because of that big underground homosexual population.

Having grown up in the midwest, I can tell you from experience.  Animal rendering plants are perhaps the worst stench in the world.  You can smell them from miles away.

Every time I drive through Clinton or Cedar Rapids, I am reminded of why I would never live in either of those cities.

Used to live "near" one when I first moved to Nebraska. It was generally only bad when I'd first wake up in the morning and go outside and the wind was coming up from the south (which was most every day).

My grandparents live about 25 miles upwind of Clinton. Once in awhile the smell wafts up there. And sometimes, we'll get the Clinton stench in the Quad Cities.
They're trying to put a hog plant in one of the little hamlets on the Illinois side, and that would just be a wonderful potpourri on the right day.

What about the stench from "Jethro's BBQ" ??

"Odor investigation"?? You mean people's tax dollars have to be used to pay for an entire committee to step outside, go *sniff, sniff* and issue a report saying "Yep. It smells bad."?!?

Odor investigate this, Des Moines: *FARRRRRRT*!!!

Was there for business once on a Memorial Day. Could barely get a taxi from the airport.
Anyways, apart from the tornado scare (me, remaining patrons callous to such paltry Fujita 1ers) in an all glass diner, I smelled the smells. Was told multiple times, it was city of 5 smells. I smelled it, it stunk.
Just as the other time I drove west to east through IA, and the smells. Man, I love the ocean.

You have to admit Cedar Rapids was a olifactory wonderland on the days that the Quaker Oats factory made Captain Crunchberries.  Sometimes if the winds were right it would waft all the way to Iowa City.

Stayed in Clovis, NM one night on the way to Colorado. They have a huge Burlington Santa Fe switch yard, so there are lots of cattle feedlots around town. Went swimming in the hotel pool around 8 PM, and the air literally smelled brown with the stench of cowpoop.

I remember driving through Iowa as a child. Pig shiate smell.

As far as a seafood restaurant there; My Iowa sister visits every summer for ocean swimming and (as she calls it) Real Seafood.

Now, it just smells like stale oats and dessicated Quakers.

It's the new Al Quitter operations to attack Americans. They're using our laws agin us by closing all meat processing plants throughout the country. The whistle-blowers have known these violations for years, but now they've coordinated the reveal to cause massive meat shortages and disrupt our way of life.

Clinton's smell is combination of Purina Dog Food and processed corn.

Cedar Rapids's smell is a combination of burnt oatmeal, Captain Crunch, and processed corn with a hint of sewage.

When you've offended the delicate sensibilities of the patrons of Jethro's BBQ, you have crossed a line.

Mrs. Wraithmare is from Ceder Rapids and her dad was from Clinton, so I'm getting a kick from these comments.

Like it is right now. I live close to the Mississippi. There are days it smells like an abandoned fishmarket outside.
