David had courted Priscilla for eight months before he popped the question - the pair have never kissed.

Oh good, so apparently not only are the Duggars themselves farked up, but they join together with other families that are equally so.

Meanwhile, the older Duggar girls discuss their ideal future husbands, each admitting that they hope to find men that resemble their father Jim Bob.

No wonder these hillbillies make the boys and girls sleep separately.

They are seen explaining the ins and outs of dating which involves 'funneling' potential suitors to their father in order for him to give his seal of approval.

Jim Bob says: 'I would ask questions about what their background is, what their future goals are, just a variety of questions about their spiritual life, about their relationship with God and then I'm also determining whether their personality will line up with the daughter they're interested in.'

As if we already didn't know, these people are farking looney tunes.

bikerbob59: Maybe their God is trying to tell them something.

All they seem to hear is "PUMP OUT MORE UNITS!"

There will be another pregnancy, and probably a dead Mama Duggar, and two new pianos, and lots of batshiat insane "It was God's will" talk even though Doctors have already told them how dangerous it is for her to keep pumping out Jesus warriors, and Jim Bob will find himself a new 20-year-old and she'll pump out 20 more units.

They seem like a happy, healthy family. The only thing I can hate on them for is having all the names start with 'J'. For some reason, that always bothers me.

Not specifically the letter 'J', but in general when they have all the names start with the same letter.

What happens when the well runs dry and her life's purpose ceases to exist? This lady has known nothing but baby making for almost two decades; half of one in the limelight because of it.

Menopause is going to crack this lady.

IrateShadow: I understand that miscarriage is traumatic, but is it really tragic when it would have been #20?

If one considers the classical definition of tragedy, whereby a person causes his or her own downfall, then the question has to be raised: is it proper to call a miscarriage tragic at all? It's a sad situation, to be sure, but to call it "tragic" has implications that I'm not sure anybody really wants to think about.

They are a cult, not a family.

They remind me of the bible thumper I work with. Since the day she got here she has been planning her barbie/disney princess wedding to a guy she hasent even found yet. And the list of traits she gave about this guy probably could never be filled. For a while she was going to marry a basketball player she went to Liberty U with, but that somehow fizzeled. One day she was having a meltdown at work. She was very upset, like her whole family died in a plane crash upset. Turns out her brother got tired of their church and decided to leave it. She didnt take to well to that and went on full saviour mode. One thing I am glad about she stopped asking me to her church and bugging me about my dating history. I think those talks I have given her about not talking about religion and politics at work may have finally worked.

Seems to me Mrs. Duggar's future outlook sucks. Either death by childbirth or suicide once she hits menopause.

That or her self preservation instincts, after years of vicious suppression, rise up and she dismembers her husband a little bit.

I didn't know this until a few days ago, and at the risk of Godwinning myself:

Joesph Goebbels and his wife names all six of their kids with "H" names in honor of the greatest name (Goebbels actual belief), Hitler. Like the quiver full movement it was considered a mark of greatness to bear as many children for the movement as possible. There exists a whole series of medals and badges to mark mothers who had lots of kids in Nazi Germany, the "Mothers Crosses" in bronze, silver and gold were the top ones, with other badges as well.

Say what you want, this shiat is kinda creepy. And the Duggers are mooching, creepy shiatbags as well.

'Risk' of Godwinning? By contrasting the Duggars to Goebbels you have claimed the title of Godwin King. Jesus, get a grip. It's one large, religious family. This country used to be full of 'em and managed to live through it.

I get that a lot of people don't want to have sex until marriage, but the whole thing where you go from almost no physical contact with someone of the opposite sex your whole life, then on your wedding night you go from that to first kiss, first time seeing someone naked, and first time having sex must be super traumatizing.

I dunno. It's like watching the Stepford Wives, but with children. Where are the fussy toddlers, the crying fits, kids fighting, and teenage rebellion? While I have no knowledge of their contract with TLC, I would be willing to wager quite a bit that the Duggars have editorial control over everything that gets on TV and so we the viewer only ever see happy smiling faces and Good Christian Behavior.

They don't seem like that healthy of a family to me. Parents who actually have relationships with their children is one of the cornerstones of what I consider to be a healthy family.

Ah yes the old, overpopulate the world, killing your wife in the process while using up more resources than you have any right to because Jesus argument. The problem is educated young professionals like my wife and I don't want children. We would much rather not be tied down by a screaming little person who constantly poops themselves. Out of all of your friends who are in the same position we are, only one of us have kids and that certainly wasn't planned

Three to four years. Average age for girls to potty train is right around 3 years old. For boys to be potty trained, average is closer to 4.

And it's a damned long time before they grow out of screaming and yelling, running around the house.

DSanchez: I wanted to hate this show when I first watched it, instead I thought that they seemed pretty normal, all things considered.

I could edit the movie Se7en to look like a sitcom/drama about a rookie detective who just had a rough 1st week and an old detective looking to retire. Still wouldn't change the fact that certain elements simply do not add up, and you never get the complete picture of how weird and twisted the story really is. The reason the Stepford Wives was so creepy was that it was all so wonderfully, lovingly, normal. Any family can be made to look wholesome and happy when you edit out all the batshiat crazy and behind-the-scenes stuff that goes on in every household.

Soon enough, Honey Boo-Boo will outshine everything ever broadcast on television and the Duggars will retire someplace quiet.

Let's say you have one family with 12 kids, another with 14, yet another with 8. If you entered their respective houses, you would have found that the older kids were entrusted with one of the younger ones and looked after them--helping them get dressed, bathroom stuff, etc. Even a family with five kids had the oldest helping the youngest (15 year age gap).

The first three families were my grandmother's siblings' families. My grandmother was the piker of the family and only had five.

TL; DR--the buddy system in big families has always been there.

Maybe they just really, really love having hot unprotected sex, and everything they are doing is just to rationalize their mutual surrender to their insatiable hunger for risky bareback pounding.

Especially the creepy thing where the mom home schooled the older kids and the older kids homeschool the younger kids. That seems super farked up and seems like it would be a good way to make sure every generation is dumber than the last, since the older kids will never be smarter than the mom, and the younger kids will never be smarter than the older kids.

The other dimension in classic tragedy is that the person causing their own downfall is someone of high standing, so they have farther to fall.

Clown car hillbillies do not fit the bill. This is more accurately called "satire."
