Rep. Paul Ryan, a Republican from Wisconsin and a candidate for the vice presidency, is worth a relatively paltry $2.2 million and didn't make the cut.

/Oblig and hot like GOP tears.

So the Clear Channel heir guy is number one?

Wait, I thought Bain bought Clear Channel.

Who's Limbaugh's boss now, Romney or McCaul?

Congratulations to him, as he's married to the one corporation that Fox News aspires to be.

I'm not sure it's quite fair to impute a spouse's wealth, whether we're talking about John Kerry or John McCain. If it's a conversation about lifestyle, sure, but if the question is strictly one of wealth, it's a later-in-life marriage, and there's no knowledge whether the spouse separately maintains her assets and income, then it's probably not fair.

Kerry had a pretty nice chunk of cheese on his own before he married John Heinz' money.

I do enjoy how during a recession with unemployment increasing, prices of everything increasing, and people having to cut back everywhere, each of these senators portfolios increased substantially in wealth.

Bootstraps.

What's interesting is how so many people on that list did absolutely nothing to earn their wealth, either inheriting it (like #1) or marrying into it (#2).

He married a tax attorney. I wonder what would happen if he simplified the tax code and eliminated all those deductions and credits which made his wife a millionaire.

Issa made his fortune off of those useless, irritating Viper car alarms.

So of all 535 members of the House and Senate, only one is richer than Mitt Romney. And even then, only by less than 20%.

Congress has a lot more opportunity for graft than the private sphere, generally speaking private companies tend to care about what's legal. I mean, they'll try to get it changed by lobbying but when things are actually the law they stay within the limits, even if only technically. This means a minimum of kickbacks.

Congress simply doesn't have to give a fark about the law, since the entity enforcing it on congress is... congress.

//And that can't really be changed without giving the executive branch dictator powers, so you should prolly learn to live with it.

I will never forgive Darrell Asshat for giving CA Governator Ahnold.

Ladies and Gentlemen,
If you vote for any of these folks, you are as stupid as they are rich. They thank you for your generous support.

Same could be said for the majority of Congress members (yes, "team" doesn't matter). Once you get in though, you're set! Insider trading, shady real estate, sweetheart deals on mortgages, the sky is the limit!

Given the choice between the party that wants everyone to be rich so they'll stay in power, and the party that wants everyone to be poor so they'll stay in party, who should I choose?
