If they actually produced some results, the backlash would have been significantly reduced.

I am glad that they got caught with their pants down. Not all police are scum, there are good ones out there, but these assholes can be pretty damn evil.

Muslims are not the only people who become terrorists. I am far more worried about Christian extremism and White Power movement over Islamic Jihad.

Maybe they were too busy committing non-existent voter fraud?

This story needs to be made a much bigger deal. We need to stop letting the pants-wetters decide how we live our lives and who is an enemy.

if it looks, walks & talks like a duck, 9x out of 10 it's a duck.

The main thing is that we're reminding everybody that the US is at war with Islam. Which is what Osama bin Laden wanted us do do.

Didn't the NYPD try to claim it was legal because the cops were not being paid by NYPD?

Race and religion are two different things...

As with any "secret" organization, I'm sure there's a lot going on we'll never know about.

Well very obviously they didn't have enough funding and were understaffed. The solution is more tax money thrown at it, and make the department bigger.

More government fixes everything.

True, but this is kind of a "disparate impact" kind of situation.

Anyone else catch the story about Operation Flex on NPR?

In a nutshell -- new "convert" to Islam starts talking about Jihad Jihad Jihad. Two men in the community tell a friend at CAIR who tells the FBI. Turns out the "convert" was a paid FBI informant. The two men who tried to turn him in became suspects, were arrested and had their lives turned upside down. Informant lied. FBI lied. Lawsuits are still ongoing.

Bottom line is that the Muslim community that once believed in reporting potential terrorists in their midsts now have an attitude of "fark it, not my problem and I'm not going to stick my neck on the chopping block".

So the next time someone in the mosque talks about blowing things up nobody will tell anybody, they'll just keep their heads down and pretend they never saw a thing. End result is that Americans are LESS safe.

You wouldn't.

No, it's not.

Nicholas Brody and Tom Walker seen nodding in agreement. Well, Brody is since Walker got his head blown off.

This is so much a better use of government dollars than say feeding somebody.
Or housing.
Or education.
Or health care.
Or most any damned thing but THIS!

On the other hand, the non-profiling TSA has had an equal measure of success. Though it has cost much much more so by that metric it has been wildly successful.

It's more like putting thousands of fire detectors all over every surface of every red house because they look like they're already on fire.

No, actually it is like looking for a lost dime under the streetlight instead of down the block where you lost it, because the light is better.

Sounds like the same way they expanded the war on drugs to the billions of dollars a year it now is.

This just proves that the Islamite subversives are more clever and inscrutable than we thought.

This. I'm a white gentile but certainly no Christian, regardless of what my neighbors would like to assume.

2012-08-22 11:13:35 AM
I find all religions to be equally ignorant. But, it still bothers me the level of ignorance that goes toward Islamophobia in this country. People who claim to be representing American ideals are doing anything but that when they attack someone for their religious beliefs. Irony isn't amused. You can't get much more un-American than to use religion as the basis for discrimination. I guess an education of history is lacking in a lot of places.

2012-08-22 11:14:10 AM
I think the only time I have ever heard of profiling working was in the 80s when NYC police would look for crappy cars with Florida plates, with at least 2 hispanic males in them. I forget what the percentage was but IIRC it was high before the ACLU got wind of it and closed it down.

I've known Jewish Trotskyites and even Jewish Quakers.

If we're going to use "Jew" to mean "a practioner of Judaism" then we need a new term for the ethnicity, something like "Hebrews." (In spite of your misusage.)

Not "Israelite," for obvious reasons.

2012-08-22 11:19:37 AM
A cynic would say that some people get careful when they know they're being watched. Especially in obvious places like mosques.

Oh yes!
Much easier to get collaborators to harrass the citizens by remote control.
All that face/face stuff at TSA is just too difficult to staff, not enough traitors.

You're right subby, it would have been much better had we wasted 3x as many millions monitoring old Jewish ladies and little girls to the same degree we did Muslim males.

/concentrate efforts in proportion to risk

There is a market for that pron.

The FBI somehow has the ability to screw up even the most mundane operations, but at least they didn't turn it into another Ruby Ridge.

It's as if extremists represent a very small minority in any group.

consider this: zarberg: It's as if extremists represent a very small minority in any group.

But knowing which group those extremists come from and keeping an eye on them is just common sense.

Why target just Muslims, then? There's been plenty of people hurt/killed by people claiming it was in the name of Jesus.

2012-08-22 11:52:01 AM
I bet the reality is that they weren't able to act on suspicious behavior due to PC bullcrap liberals have been pushing. Just like what happened with Major Hassan, we knew he was up to somethign but couldn't act on it because liberals picked his feelings over the lives of 16 servicemen
