(Bay News 9)   Dare to imagine, if you will, 50,000 national Republican delegates stranded in downtown Tampa without power or water in the aftermath of a hurricane strike. Go on, dare, because forecasters now say it really could happen   (baynews9.com) divider line 426

How will the hover rounds get powered up?

Sure, a big hurricane hits Tampa like twice a year. Wait, I misspelled "once every quarter century or so".

50,000? That's it? They're rerouting traffic, farking up the locals' lives for a week for the turnout of a Fleetwood Mac concert?

Yeah, I was thinking something along those lines too. Thanks for the laugh.
I wonder if they will actually be proactive and move the convention or just pray the hurricane away?

It's probably too late to move the convention, it takes months to set up a venue, hotels, flights for all the delegates and dignitaries, etc. I suppose the GOP could make a stab at moving it, and probably should have had a back-up plan in mind (since Florida is a rather common target for extreme weather during the summer).

It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Hasn't the gulf of mexico had enough damage done to it without having all the bs from the convention washed out into it?

They can use the public restrooms as a storm shelter. Bring a mop.

Isaac is a badass name too, full of symbolism and Ted Lange.

i'm sure the GOP is bootstrappy enough to survive without any outside help.

You just know if a prominent delegate winds up stuck in Raymond James Stadium, help would be there, for them anyway, within minutes of the hurricane departing.

I had a dream last night that all the black people in the Tampa area blocked the roads leaving the city with burning cars.

/ is that bad?
// what does this dream mean?

It should be noted that the current official forecast has Isaac going right to Miami and probably not all that close to Tampa. It won't take much of a shift, though, to get it to go to the other side of FL and really threaten Tampa.

Luckily, they're Republicans. They won't need government help if things go awry.

I would try to ride the hurricane out in the pirate ship.

Does Tampa have a domed stadium they can evac to? (would be just deserts, albeit about 8 yrs late)

Lootie? Recast or Original cast?

if it keeps the rest of the nation from watching their depravity, good.

At least there wouldn't be looting
or dogs left chained in the yard while the bipeds left

If things go terribly wrong the Repubs will say it's a test of their faith

If it happened to a Dem convention it would be the sky fairy's wrath.

Especially with the Mayor saying he won't hesitate to call it off if things get dicey.

Tampa won't hesitate to pull the plug on the Republican National Convention next week if Tropical Storm Isaac threatens the Tampa Bay area as a major storm, mayor Bob Buckhorn told CNN this morning.

I just remembered that The Daily Show is going to be there. The idea of John Oliver reporting from a candlelit convention floor warms my heart.

This actually is a good opportunity for Republicans, they could be all bootstrappy and go around helping people and handing out water and batteries and volunteering to help... Most likely though it will prove that the private sector needs the government sometimes.

2012-08-22 08:58:20 AM
They better stock up on condoms. There's going to be a lot of toe tapping in the darkened bathroom stalls.

"Sorry honey. Can't come home ... trapped by the storm. *tap tap tap*. Gotta go. Something just came up!!"

They've already deemed this natural phenomenon as a good thing, symbolic of "blowing away" the "dems" in 2012.

I don't buy that at all. They've spent years and millions on this. Short of a damn tornado crashing through the mayor's office, he's not calling off a thing.

I'm not getting my hopes up just yet.
