Did she remove the entire image or just the scandalous bits? Like, cut out the nipples or dongs and leave the rest?

FizixJunkee: Our daughter is 4 years old and sees me (her mother) naked on a regular basis. She knows that pubic hair is something you get when you start becoming an adult, and that both boys and girls get it (though she's never seen her father's pubic hair, or even his genitalia for that matter). She also sees my breasts on a near daily basis, and she knows that she used to get milk from them. All this, and she's not a bit scarred.

Nudity ≠ profanity

hmm. i think we should see her mother, just to be sure

Truly it is.

On one side, we have people whose intellectual development is so stunted, they are shocked at the human body, which can be found anyway from most google image searches, and on the other side we have people that can shock those developmentally stunted twits...

Both sides are bad really.

Genevieve Marie: mekki: /also paint it over mostly because it's a bad piece of art.
//oh, wow, nudity. So edgy.

A big part of good art is challenging conventions and making people think. It actually IS interesting to display the nude female form in public in a piece that appears to be about a woman going through a mental transition and letting go of some negative things.

Nudity will stop being important in art when people stop getting offended by nudity.

Oh, come on. It's a bad piece of barely high school grade art. The artist isn't telling anything that has not been done a million times before in a better way. Heck, there are Animorphs book covers that are deeper than this.

Representative of the unwashed masses: Genevieve Marie: Representative of the unwashed masses: We all have different ideas of where that is, obviously some parents don't want their kids to see this piece. that's the only reason I think this piece would be better suited to either a different area (ie fewer kids and worshippers overall) or indoors.

I think it's a bad idea to force society to orient around what the most conservative people are ok with their kids seeing.

Away from a church, mosque and school in this case isn't a huge thing to ask... Is it?

I saw my first porn in elementary school (shemale porn the first time, no less, think about how confused a kid could get) and heard some real heinous stories in the bible at the same age. I vividly remember Abrahams daughters getting him blackout drunk so they could have sex with him. Also, they kill each others families and commit all other kinds of incest. Pretty sure there is much, muuch worse too.

A pair of nipples and a bush aint shiat really.

Bashar and Asma's Infinite Playlist: You're going to blur out the nudity, seriously? It's a news story about how people are demanding an "offensive" piece of art removed for its pornographic nature, and then preemptively take the side of it being offensive by not even showing your viewers what the fuss is about? It's just controversial art at this point, Atlanta. No need to implicitly condition your readers to think it's obscene.

fusillade762: How dare they try to call that filth art! Art NEVER has nudity in it!

CSB time...

I'm a high school art teacher, and my master-teacher when I started about 11 years ago was this old-school Black guy who'd been teaching for like 30 years. Really cool, chill guy...very well-versed in art & art-history topics. He also had a really extensive collection of Art In America Magazine in his classroom.

Fast-forward to 3 years after I've gotten a contract job at the school, and he has another student-teacher, this time an older woman, obviously a 2nd-career type. She tells us she's an artist, and that she loves to paint, etc. However, one day while she's supposed to be observing her master teacher, he happens to look over to where she's sitting, and sees that she has a pair of scissors and a stack of his Art In America magazines. He drops in to see what's going on, and she's CUTTING OUT ANY IMAGES THAT HAVE NUDITY IN THEM. He stays cool and calm and asks what she's doing, and she replies that nudity is filthy and has no place in a high school art classroom. Needless to say he DID NOT recommend her for a teaching credential, though he did recommend her for some counseling.
