It's just as sad that so many people use the human body as a tool to shock others. These are two sides of the same coin.

How can you brainwash someone into believing their eternal soul depends on the approval and forgiveness of an invisible intangible being unless you first break down their self-esteem by convincing them that their very being, and by extension everyone elses, is inherently nasty and sinful?

/violence is still OK, though

We're made in God's image. WHICH IS BAD, LOOK AWAY! And for the last time stop touching it.

Not really. We shouldn't be shocked by naked bodies. Additionally, this is quite tame.

Not sexy but some might be NSFW. I didn't see the mural from the article.

The imam at the mosque said the last thing his community needs is a nude woman for all to see.

So he admits the community needs it.

You're going to blur out the nudity, seriously? It's a news story about how people are demanding an "offensive" piece of art removed for its pornographic nature, and then preemptively take the side of it being offensive by not even showing your viewers what the fuss is about? It's just controversial art at this point, Atlanta. No need to implicitly condition your readers to think it's obscene.

The artwork is a bit rough but I see nothing wrong with it. There is a blank cement wall near our house that could only be improved by something like this.

Our daughter is 4 years old and sees me (her mother) naked on a regular basis. She knows that pubic hair is something you get when you start becoming an adult, and that both boys and girls get it (though she's never seen her father's pubic hair, or even his genitalia for that matter). She also sees my breasts on a near daily basis, and she knows that she used to get milk from them. All this, and she's not a bit scarred.

Nudity ≠ profanity

Overall I'd prefer this type of exhibit to be in a gallery etc. I personally don't care about the piece or its meaning, but since there is nudity involved I'd keep it indoors so parents can make that choice for young kids, right or wrong.

Also I'm assuming the choice of location was to annoy a church and mosque.

fusillade762: How dare they try to call that filth art! Art NEVER has nudity in it!

CSB time...

I'm a high school art teacher, and my master-teacher when I started about 11 years ago was this old-school Black guy who'd been teaching for like 30 years. Really cool, chill guy...very well-versed in art & art-history topics. He also had a really extensive collection of Art In America Magazine in his classroom.

Fast-forward to 3 years after I've gotten a contract job at the school, and he has another student-teacher, this time an older woman, obviously a 2nd-career type. She tells us she's an artist, and that she loves to paint, etc. However, one day while she's supposed to be observing her master teacher, he happens to look over to where she's sitting, and sees that she has a pair of scissors and a stack of his Art In America magazines. He drops in to see what's going on, and she's CUTTING OUT ANY IMAGES THAT HAVE NUDITY IN THEM. He stays cool and calm and asks what she's doing, and she replies that nudity is filthy and has no place in a high school art classroom. Needless to say he DID NOT recommend her for a teaching credential, though he did recommend her for some counseling.

Pretty sure she wasn't too precise...just big cut-outs...one that I saw was a classical greek statue, and it was like a censor-bar across the breasts...hard to remember the rest. Think there was a reclining nude where all she left was the head and lower-legs...
