I thought from the post the Swedish model was preferred in the abstract because Sweden actually has ethical and honest government compared to the current US government model of lie and cheat to stay in power or get elected. The Swedes appear to enforce their laws even with members of government as opposed to the US model of is your party in power or are you wealthy and well connected, (see Valukas report with accompanying proof of several felonies committed by government employees and criminal executives of Lehman brothers but no talk of any prosecution even with the evidence already complied. DOJ = Department of justice for people not donating to or offending the president

I heard it is a government that is attractive and can be put together with an allen wrench.

I prefer a government with very little Republicans ruling it, and enough progressives and socialists to give the Democratic Party a run for their money.

I prefer no coercive power structures, no government, no capitalism. All power to the people and the peoples' assemblies.

Barring that, no fascists, no huge base of law designed to do nothing but protect the plutocracy, no massive military, no militarized police, no morals laws, no free money for thieves, labor in place of corporations, health and education in place of handies for the aristos, bread and jobs in place of stock market inflation. Government of the people, by the people, for the people. It's not so much to ask.

I don't know why, but that comment reminded me of this gem from The Simpsons:

Focus Group Guy: So you want a realistic down-to-earth show that's completely off the wall and swarming with magic robots?
[the kids all chat at once about it being a great idea]
Milhouse Van Houten: And, also, you should win things by watching.
Focus Group Guy: [sighs]
Roger Myers Jr.: [turns off the mirror disguise in the window] You kids don't know what you want. That's why you're still kids, 'cause you're stupid. Just tell me what's wrong with the freakin' show!

At the very bottom, what other purpose does it have? By any commonly accepted theories of democratic governance, resource allocation in some form is the only legitimate government function.

I'm down with the Swedish system and I'm more than happy to pay for it.

The problem is that here in the States we've become convinced "The Government" is evil, when it is nothing more than a reflection of whatever we want it to be,

Conservatives in fly over states in particular have no understanding of just how wealthy the 1% are. They still believe the doctor down the street in the McMansion is the the 1%. If they actually understood the level they are being fleeced by their own party there would be no more conservatives.

So when you have more or less homogenous population of only 9 million people everything is great.

Hmm, imagine that. It is almost like a single US metropolitan area is great size, but once you put everyone together shiat hits the fan.

Who would have thought that when the hicks from the South won't play nice with the refined Northerners the whole country goes to shiat?

But that's part of the problem. That doctor? There's a good chance he IS in the 1%.
What is the cutoff? Something like $300,000/yr to be in the 1%?
But $300,000 is small potatoes compared to the 0.1%, who make $300,000 in the course of a week or a month.

Same thing. There is no difference between "crony capitalism" and capitalism, or "voodoo economics" and capitalism, or "corporatism" and capitalism. It's all the same shiat and it all comes from the same place. You wouldn't say, "It's not cancer, it's lymphoma!" would you? Capitalism is poison, no matter what mask it wears.

But then how would the regions of the same damn country compete with each other to drive down wages and distribute corporate welfare?

Homogeneity breeds solidarity. Hence, Sweden and the Sweden-like states (e.g. Minnesota) are much more amenable to wealth redistribution than diverse states.

I disagree. Our flavor of capitalism is poison. Most economic philosophy is neither good or bad; it's all in the implementation.

This really is significantly more influential than people are willing to admit.

This may blow your mind, but the median GP salary is only $168,550. And the specialists and surgeons are mostly in the "big" (relative term here) cities rather than the small towns.

Excuses, excuses, where's you American exceptionalism? The Republicans who believe so much in American exceptionalism should be saying "Who cares if they're less diverse. We're better than they are. We can be the best in the world with one hand tied behind our back!"

And those who go around saying shiat like "Both sides are bad, so vote Republican" misses the point altogether. It does not matter that one is more bad than the other, they are still bad.
