(Yahoo)   New Paterno book claims JoePa hated Sandusky. Not because of the pedophilia, but because Sandusky was focusing more on the children than on football. Joe did balance it out though by focusing more on football than the children   (news.yahoo.com) divider line 65

I am not so sure about JoePa, football in general is really, really gay, and they do have to keep bringin' in kids because the attrition rate is so high.

Is the white knighting over finally?

nytmare: IntertubeUser: Paterno and Sandusky were lifelong Republicans.

Figures.

Corruption is unacceptable no matter which party you're from.

So rape Republican.

So in other words, Paterno really didn't have any motive to defend Sandusky, other than because football.

And people wonder why I call for the NCAA death penalty (or, failing that, a court/executive order along the same lines).

Outrageous Muff: Jim_Tressel's_O-Face: Our first JoePalogist!

Sorry to burst your bubble, but Joe Paterno was a creep and got what was coming to him. I was just commenting on how lacking the outrage in this thread was. You guys are barely whipping yourselves into a hate-filled frenzy.

I thought the same thing. 54 comments on a penn state thread? Rejoice, penn staters, the news cycle has moved on.

For the record, I find the idea that JoPa was so obsessed with football that he just didn't care about anything but the next week's game almost as damning as the idea that he willfully covered up child abuse to protect his reputation. I also think it pretty likely - you don't do all that JoPA did without being one obsessive motherfarker with a bad case if tunnel vision. I would buy the idea that Sandusky's grievances were so far out of the zone of things JoPa cared about (winning football games) that They just didn't register as things he gave a damn about.

If true, it would mean that the NCAA was precisely right when it cited "cultural problems" at penn state, i.e. a university with blinders on, and a culture where football comes before everything else. And JoPa isn't less guilty in this - he's the damn prototypical model for the whole lot of Penn State fans.

The reason the post count is so low is that the white-knighters haven't shown up for the party. Since this didn't post to the Sports tab, I'm guessing it is out of their sight (with that football obsession of theirs, and all)

I remember some white-knighter saying Paterno hated Sandusky, so it was unlikely Paterno ever even knew about the rape (before the Freeh Report showed otherwise) since he hated Sandsky enough to turn him in if he did... so it's one of their talking points, like the whole "JoePa didn't know what sodomy was" crap.

It's all they have left, I think.

Maybe they've finally given up, but I doubt it.

Clearly, JoePa didn't focus enough on football. His team didn't win a single game in over a decade.

I think it's encouraging that a Penn State related thread like this isn't already at 300 responses.

We...Are....MOVING ON.

Soon, Paterno will be nothing but a faded skidmark on the many-washed jockey shorts of society.

Its nice how history seems to change over night.

Really? He was focusing on football? It sure didn't show - Penn State has been a middle-bottom dweller in the Big-10 for about a decade. JoPa should have retired 10-15 years ago.

God I hope so.
