So we can discuss couches and/or grammar in a civil manner.  No need to burn down the castle.  Turn this into a learning experience.

The Modminserastriators. Or something. Why? This is a category of greenlight specifically designed to humiliate Subby. The subject of TFA is irrelevant.

It could be argued that since only one person will buy the couch "whom" is appropriate. It is also arguable that whom should be burned at the stake because it makes us all feel crappy and illiterate and has fallen so out of use that it makes one feel like a proper ponce when one does actually use it.

Whom do you buy life insurance from? Seriously who says that? It may be technically correct but save that shiate for a Ren Faire.

Language is fluid.

"Whom" is a direct object. It has nothing to do with number. The "Whom" in the headline is being used as a nominative. The "Whom" in your example is a direct object. The headline is wrong, period.

I for one am outraged.  Since this is the interwebby I will counter with a valiant and well-timed OH YEAH, YER FACE IS WRONG!  Or we could just have an admin fix the headline but really, where is the fun in that?

Also, are you by any chance ON your, period?  Because girlfriend you need to get yourself to the nearest PINT OF ICECREAM AND CHILL THE FECK OUT!

I'm guessing that subby was playing off the content of the link and is not an actual moran. Not enough info to tell. Just a hunch

What makes me think he is joking is the use of the phrase "football professionalist."

That, and perhaps that dugitman might be subby, and is letting us all in on the joke.

I was fully expecting this to be Junior Seau's couch.

Does that make me a bad person?

Not subby. I admit headline gave me a headache until I clicked-- then chuckled. I guess it's possible subby accidentally the whole macguffin.

Ending a sentence with a preposition is something up with which I will not put.

This is the rallying cry for the 'tards. "I don't feel like putting in a relatively short span of time into learning something, so let's just make the rules malleable." I'm a grammar nerd; I was, for a while, a writing major in college, I tutored linguistics, and I copy-edited my newspaper. I don't expect others to be as dedicated to it (or as interested in it), as I am, but don't farking argue that you're right when you're farking not.

Oh, and since I'm you're not going to take the five minutes to Google and read the distinctions between "who" and "whom," I'll give you the Cliffs Notes version:

If you're replacing "I," "he," she," or "they," it's "who."

If you're replacing "me," "him," "her," or "them," it's "whom."

2012-08-21 11:14:28 PM
It was "Keyshawns Johnson"..... So this used to be Keyshawns dick?

That makes no sense at all. Just stop talking, if you're going to be that stupid.

were you confused as to what subby was saying? was anyone? then shut up. You are not correct, even if you are "right"

That's cute how you put "right" in quotes.

I'll cliff's notes your cliff's notes: The m's match.

/If "him" makes grammatical sense it's whom. If not, it's who.

Text messaging, email, the internet and social networking have all brought us into an information age that wasn't even imaginable just a couple of decades ago.

Unfortunately, they have also been responsible for a systematic dismantling of the English language in terms of spelling and grammar.

We have created a generation of people who can visualize entire digital networks before they run the first cable, who can create CGI images more impressive than some of art's greatest masters, and who can seamlessly navigate through the near-entirety of human knowledge with a few clicks of a mouse button...yet they can't remember when to use an apostrophe or get through a sentence without committing an aggravated assault on grammar.

It is to weep.
