. . . in an effort to make Democrats say "no" to Sharia Law?

I think the Democrats, or rather one of their Super PACs, should run ads showing the similarities bt the GOP's platform and Sharia law.

2012-08-21 12:37:12 PM
Anyone concerned about Sharia shouldn't be allowed to vote.

Theocratic Muslim law--bad. Theocratic Christian law--great!

So, they're against Bible-based law then, eh?

Or, are they thinking that the items in Sharia come from a source other than the Bible?

This country is home to a small number of Talmudic courts, which are used by observant (and decidedly old school) Jews. I'm sure they'll be happy to hear that the GOP wants to shut them down.

Oh, and those references to "foreign law" by the courts? They're referencing the Magna Carta and British Common Law, which were the blueprint for all modern democracies.

2012-08-21 12:47:08 PM
How can they be anti-Sharia and pro-Sharia at the same time?

2012-08-21 12:48:43 PM
Sharia as a whole is bad, because it's proposed by a Muslim.
Sharia as individual pieces, proposed by a Christian, is A-OK.

Just like Romney/Obamacare.

2012-08-21 12:48:47 PM
Instead of trying to get a constitutional amendment to ban abortion or gay marriage or repeal the 14th amendment... shouldn't the GOP focus their efforts on some sort of amendment to our constitution that could prevent Sharia law from taking hold in the USA?

2012-08-21 12:49:41 PM
They've really gone off the deep end. Good job GOP, you keep raising the Derp levels to astounding heights and further alienating independent voters that are unhappy with Obama.

One of our resident conservatrolls assured us that no such independents exist in this election. I suspect a self-fulfilling prophecy at work.

We see it from the top where the United States Supreme Court has repeatedly quoted foreign law in interpreting our U.S. constitution and it's actually coming in at the bottom as well, it's being raised as an argument in courts around the country

I'm not aware of any court that's accepted the argument

Sharia is a threat that has infiltrated every court in the country, except for all of them.

Then how can Christie be the keynote? Didn't he call Sharia law "nonsense" not too long ago when he appointed a Muslim to the bench?

This is excellent. What good does it do to protect the nation from non-existent voter fraud if the make-believe threat of sharia law is left to fester?

Now it's time to focus on the the imaginary infiltration of Congress by Communists and the Muslim Brotherhood.

Thank God we have Republicans to protect us.

Maybe we should try living under Christian law.

Love thy neighbor.

Oh wait, that is Islamic law, too!

A Bedouin came to the prophet, grabbed the stirrup of his camel and said: O the messenger of God! Teach me something to go to heaven with it. Prophet said: "As you would have people do to you, do to them; and what you dislike to be done to you, don't do to them. Now let the stirrup go!

Yes. Unless it's banning a Biblical law, then it's the work of Activist Judges.

You really think Republicans distinguish between Puerto Ricans (U.S. citizens) and Mexicans (foreign nationals)?

Now... I may be reaching a bit here... but I think all of this may be the manifestations of the establishment GOP's attempt to bring all of this way-far-right silliness to it's flaming zenith. Let it flame out, start over with more sensible policy. Doesn't hurt to dream does it?

The Golden Rule is in just about every major and minor religion I can think of, from Christianity to Islam, from Hinduism to Taoism, from Paganism to Sufism, and from Wiccan to Buddhism. Hell, even the farking Scientologists subscribe to the Golden Rule!

"I'm not aware of any court that's accepted the argument, but in cases involving either spousal abuse or assault or other crimes against persons, sometimes defenses are raised that are based in Sharia law,

So what? the dude who shot Harvey Milk said he ate too much junkfood... so outlaw saying you ate too many Twinkies as a court defense? It seems like it would be against your 1st amendment to tell people they can defend themselves in court the way they see fit.

The rest of the platform cribs heavily from Sharia though, so it's not totally anti-Islam.

Seriously, if they read that shiat they might walk away thinking they're Muslim fundamentalists.
