Schilling tweeted that "if the state loses money it's because the Governor is a dunce of epic proportions, nothing I can do about that."

So he's a dunce for loaning money to Schiller. I guess I can agree with that.

Did he ever just once consider taking all the money that he invested in the video game companies and investing it in actual currently performing video game companies? What makes him an expert on managing, well -anybody?

It takes one to know one Curt.

The Govenor that called his bluff, didn't give him the money.  He was against it.

Ah, so the governor is a dunce because he didn't want to lend money to a company that eventually failed and the state did it anyway and lost money.

No the past governor signed off on 122 million.  The current governor was against it.  Curt blew 75 million in just over a year.  Which was 70% of the budget the state had to create jobs.  They layed off 400 people, against the law. Defaualted on the loan and bought another company that they also laid off everyone. Two states, one blow hard.

Party of personal responsibility, after all. You think when his company needed $120 million that anybody helped him out? HECK NO. He picked his company up by the bootstraps and CREATED 400 game designers now available to work at ANY company that's hiring, talk about getting this economy moving again! But Curt doesn't need your thanks, he's a self-made man who knows how to get things done.

...and if I understand correctly, what money that Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning made, nearly all of it went to the publisher, Electronic Arts, instead of going back to Schilling's actual game studio, due to the idiotic publishing contract he signed with EA.

Need to contact Merriam-Webster. We have a new definition of "karma."

That's how most publishing contracts work, although if HE paid for the development of the game and not EA, then yeah, that's stupid as hell.

Apparently boot-straps were not sewn on when they stitched the ketchup to his socks. What a farking piece of shiat this guy is.

Which is a bummer, because it was a pretty awesome game.

KoA was a good game, they just spent like drunken sailors and no one seemed to be in charge of the purse strings. The executives at 38 Studios are just as much to blame as Curt.

Chafee told WPRO-AM that Schilling's comments were "regretful."

Sounds like Schilling may be right....

good to see old curt is still trying to blame others for his own failures.

The ex-pitcher, who also played for Baltimore, Philadelphia and Houston, conceded previously that he himself was "absolutely" part of the reason the company failed.

Yep.

Fark would be a very desolate place.

Two companies? You leave Multi-Man Publishing out of this!

Why the fark would any state guarantee that kind of money to a new game company? Not like those things are generally long lasting, job creating businesses or that market is particularly friendly and stable to newcomers.

Best case the game was a hit and then you might get some return on investment before the company folded under the pressure of trying to come up with the next game.

Worst case...well, this happens.

when its an outgoing governor who has maxed his term limits, who makes the decision without any input from the legislature and the person who receives all the money is a local sports hero and personal friend of said governor?

Cronyism you say? Suppose that would explain it.

I know some good peeps there who got screwed because they trusted Schilling.

So Lincoln Chafee is a dunce because he wouldn't release nearly $50 million more to a bankrupt company and held the losses to the $75 million that his predecessor had already given away. Ok, I get this. Sorry, Curt - you were a borderline HOF pitcher, standup competitor, and a crappy businessman. Deal with it.

2012-08-22 11:14:01 AM
Throwing good money after bad? I can see how Kurt would think that's normal practice since he played for the Red Sox, but in the rest of the world you cut your losses when there's no hope of success.

Apparently the COO was Curt's uncle, who had as much management experience going in as Curt did.
