this doesn't surprise me in the slightest. i mean, isn't man-child joe barton on that committee too?

Don't act all shocked. Bachmann is on an Intelligence Committee. It's not based on qualifications, it's based on who you know.

Similarly, Michelle Bachmann is on the Intelligence Committee, for the same reason--they're perfectly reflective of the GOP's derptastic views on those issues.

Or, if I had refreshed and seen this comment, I probably wouldn't have needed to post above.

There really should be some standardized testing for some of these committees. A simple basic test for the legislator and an AP one for their advisers.

I did know that. He's a climate change denier. on the committee that over sees policy on the subject.

He also likes to co-sponsor bills with Paul Ryan denying women rights. Paul Ryan has these bullshiat ideas too. He'd just too savy to blurt them out with recording devices around.

With all the talk about changing the constitution, removing or adding amendments maybe the best proposal would be a way for a technocrat government to take power for a year every decade or so when both parties no longer even care about what is best for the US only the wielding of political power. I know it is hard to imagine a group of people running the government with commonsense backed with empirical data and sound scientific principles because it has never happened in the US.

This.

They don't conduct a test to see if you're qualified for a specific committee. If you think this is the case, you're an idiot and being surprised makes your idiocy known. Do you think that only ex-soldiers and sailors could be on the Armed Services Committee or that coal miners were the only people invited to serve on the Energy Committee? This really shouldn't be an 'Oh my god, look at this' moment

A billco-sponsored byTodd Akin and Paul Ryan
Under H.R. 3, only victims of "forcible rape" would qualify for federally funded abortions. Victims of statutory rape-say, a 13-year-old girl impregnated by a 30-year-old man-would be on their own. So would victims of incest if they're over 18. And while "forcible rape" isn't defined in the criminal code, the addition of the adjective seems certain to exclude acts of rape that don't involve overt violence-say, cases where a woman is drugged or has a limited mental capacity. "It's basically putting more restrictions on what was defined historically as rape," says Keenan.
Link to a TP article on these two.

Thank goodness! Everyone who has been drugged before someone had sex with their passed out bodies can feel better it was not a legitimate rape. I feel so much happier about it now!

YAAAYYYYYYY............I used to be on the House Science Committee and on the Subcommittee that oversees space policy and NASA!

Then I asked NASA officials whether the Mars Pathfinder photographed the U.S. flag that Neil Armstrong had planted on Mars.

I am not on that committee anymore. Doesn't matter....Go South Viet Nam!!!!!!

He literally apologized to BP for Americans being pissed off that their company killed a bunch of Americans and poisoned the Gulf.

This is the only reason the GOP has turned on Akin. Otherwise, a guy in a key senate race who was leading by 8 pts would have the full backing of the GOP, and the propaganda machine would be running into overdrive to protect him and deflect this issue onto BAD THINGS A DEMOCRAT SOMEWHERE SAID THAT ONE TIME.

They have ways of spontaneously removing green lights forced upon them.

It seems important to make a distinction between forcible rape and consensual rape, I guess.
